This one doctor on my rad account is exceedingly fast tonight.  Sounds like he is saying:  "with a maximum SFU " when referring to two lymph nodes seen.  Is he saying SFU, or estimated view, or something my brain can't decipher?

It was also used like this, "Because of some worsening right hip pain, she was treated with _____ in approximately November or December of 2008. Since then, her pain is better and she no longer needs a cane to ambulate"

Help!!! LOL. I just can't figure this one out!!!!

Just 1 reason why Internet availability for MT referencing is an invaluable asset.
DEXA is not a valid term.  The ISCD (the society that sets the standards for bone density scanning) termed the official “spelling” to be only
DXA in 2002.

Question on bone scan findings
Subject: Question on bone scan findings

The patient had a bone scan demonstrating findings suspicious for osseous metastases.  "There was sclerosis seen involving the left acromion and left ilium.  However, the skull findings [s/l equivocal as of normality?] and plain film appears to correspond to a sclerotic area involving the inner table."  Does that make sense as is?  I haven't heard that before.

The patient also underwent bone scan, this being significant for an area of intense [s/l focal bony labeling] involving the lateral epicondyle of the right femur in an individual without history of trauma, and given his history of aseptic necrosis of the femoral head, it was felt that this might be reflective of osteonecrosis including "osteochondritis desiccans."

tooth shaped from injury or what have you.  And like I said 9 times out of 10, odontoid refers to the "toothlike odontoid process in the second cervical vertebra."  That's pretty specific, dontcha think?  I've never heard a doctor refer to an "odontoid" in any other part of the body.

Have a question I need help with.  I work in a family practice clinic.  Our x-rays are read by a hospital radiologist and transcribed at the hospital.  Perhaps I am a bit anal about this but there is a term that the hospital transcriptionist uses over and over on head CT, cervical spine x-rays - the term is:  Scobi structures??  I cannot find scobi anywhere in my reference material.  Is anyone familiar with that term?  I am thinking more along the lines of skull base structures are normal.  I appreciate your input.  Deb

Subject: radiology

Thanks everyone for replying. I had x-ray tech talk to the radiologist and he is saying skull base structures. Now how to tactfully tell the hospital MT. She is not always open to any corrections. I think I will let the x-ray dept take care of it. Not everyone likes corrections. I definitely want someone to correct me if I am making a mistake so I do not continue to make the same mistakes over and over!
