hydrogenic orthostatic hypertension
Subject: hydrogenic orthostatic hypertension

I'm pretty sure this is what the doctor is saying...just wondering if anyone has ever heard of it.  It's listed under Past Medical History by itself so no clues. The only word I'm somewhat unsure of is the hydrogenic.

it probably is iatrogenic (caused by medication) instead of hydrogenic. good luck.

Beta Blockers

Beta blockers have also been studied for the treatment of orthostatic hypotension.9 The three agents most widely studied are propranolol, piûdolol, and xamoterol. Propranolol’s mechanism of action is believed to be antagonism of beta-controlled vasodilator effects of catecholamines. Pindolol is a nonselective beta blocker with intrinsic sympathomimetic activity. Patients with orthostatic hypotension may have reduced sympathomimetic activity, and the agonist properties of pindolol account for its usefulness in these patients. Xamoterol, a partial beta1-selective agonist, has been shown to be useful in patients unable to tolerate pindolol. Because xamaterol is an investigational agent, its usefulness is limited. Nevertheless, a New Drug Application has been filed with the FDA.

Subject: Pt with vertigo with s/l "a lith a tory" or with orthostatic changes. sm

He states that he has lightheaded sensation and vertigo on change of position of the head, whether it is __ or with orthostatic positional changes.  (Later in dictation, doc says "His dizziness is associated with head position.  However, it is both with head turning side to side, as well as orthostasis.", so the word seems to be related to the turning head maybe??)

hypertension stages
Subject: hypertension stages

Hi,

Anyone know if stages of hypertension are now to be noted with Arabic numerals?  I have always been taught that they are to be in Roman numeral form.  If you have the answer to this, please send me the reference as well, as I haven't been able to find this in any of my medical term books/references.  Even my Stedman's Cardiology book doesn't have information on this as far as I've been able to find.  Thanks so much for any help!
