It SOUNDS like guaiac negative staph, but I know that is not right. Any ideas? The patient had a reexcision of left chronic draining fistula from periductal mastitis and completion ductectomy.

after doing a google search for gram-negative, lactose-negative rods. Basically testing organisms to see if they ferment lactose (positive) or not (negative).
Also, just FYI, gram-negative is not capitalized.
Probably too late, I'm sure. Better late than never, I guess.

Me neither. Evidently, it is some kind of subculture they test for when going through sensitivity protocols. I think we don't hear this because ususally Gram-positive cultures sensitive to whatever is as far as an MD typically documents this with the possible exception of ID MDs.
