Flipped bucket handle?
Subject: Flipped bucket handle?
I am reading a report for my mother and I am new to radiology and this is what I have:
"There is a large flipped bucket handle tear of the medial meniscus, anterior horn body and posterior horn with a large flipped component sitting in the anterior intercondylar notch"
What in the world does this mean in layman's terms? Is anybody willing to help? We are nervous because her MRI was yesterday and the surgeon called to get her in tomarrow morning already. I hope somebody knows what in the world this means. Thanks!

How would you handle this?

I have a doc who rather consistently uses the word "escharrified," meaning to him covered with eschar. "Scarified" really doesn't have anything to do with the already-existing presence of scars, and having an eschar isn't even close. But he keeps using it, and the general rule, as we know, is verbatim transcribing. I've been using it the way he says is for a while, now, but I feel like I'm crossing my fingers behind my back every time, and I WILL NOT add it to the spell checker dictionary!
Just wanted to poll other MTs out there and see how you would handle it and maybe get a consensus. Thanks!

why point it out? I highly doubt this newbie will blame this board for anything. She is going to learn new things from this board as we all have. She obviously was just feeling a little frustrated. But to blatently point it out I think is being a tattle tale. It is too bad you didn't have anyone to assist you. Neither did I at that time, but to blatently make her look bad on this board makes it seem like you are jealous or something. Aren't we supposed to be helping one another? If she lands the job, believe me, it won't be because she asked a verbatim question on this board. More than likely, this poor girl will land a job not paying very much and learn from that. She will eventually gain experience and knowledge. All of us experienced ones won't live forever. We need to support out future not rat them out.

overread vs over-read vs over read
Subject: overread vs over-read vs over read
OneLook has a disclaimer for the definition of the word overread that says: This definition is from the 1913 Webster's Dictionary and may be outdated. Some of the links listed on OneLook give the definition, some say the word does not exist, another gives the definition and then says (not used). There are references online for over-read, overread, and over read. I think over-read with a hyphen is a nice compromise. It's situations like this that make me dazed and confused!

This Word board is for assistance.
If you don't want to assist or be helpful with information, direction, guidance, then simply do not post.
Stop with the rudeness, the hatefulness, the judgement.
If you want to report a suspicious post for test questions or offshore MT, etc., please do so but stop being ugly ON the board.

Is Fosamax given weekly or daily? I left a QA marker because when I look up Fosamax, it is given weekly, but the doc said 70 mg daily, so I left a blank. The QA person left it as daily. Would this be correct - Fosamax 70 mg daily?

It states that this board is not designed to be a place to get unlimited advice. It is here to foster dicussion. My opinion is people tend to use this site as a crutch because they lack maturity or motivation or just don't care to experience the pleasaure of researching and making discoveries that will benefit them for life.

I have deleted and banned several offshore posters from using this website, the Word board in particular. I will try to watch closely for offshore posters as we do not allow them to post here. Your help is appreciated if you suspect such.
Reminder: We do not allow test questions to be posted. As I am observing this board closely, I will delete any posts that seem to be following test format. Changing your moniker will not make a difference -- I can still see who you are!

you would have realized it was not criticism about not spelling something right, but about putting in a S/L question and someone not reading it correctly and saying she was not a mind reader. It was rude and uncalled for. Constructive criticism can be posted in a nice way, where it does not feel like criticism to the poster. No one has to be rude to get a point across. just my opinion.
