If you have a QA person, I'd give her a call to find out. A lot of times if a referring doc has an unpronouncable last name, the dictator will say something like "Dr. (first name)" and you get to figure THAT out! If you are working for a local hospital and have access to a phone book, that could provide you with a good reference. Otherwise, it's better to leave a blank for a proper name, rather than making a mistake. Most times, though, the referring doc is on your account's doctors list. If you have a docs list by specialty, that is usually a huge help and might provide the clues you need.
