If the doctor dictates cholesterol profile do you transcribe that or lipid profile?  Also, how do you transcribe total cholesterol, HDL, LDL, and triglycerides after that?

experience.  I've asked questions before also but when I do, I will state the references that failed my efforts.  Everyone needs help now and again, but when someone leans too often on the power of the knowledge of others, it becomes a problem.  Will they remember what someone else _told_ them the next time that term/phrase comes up again?  Statistics have proven that 98% of what we retain is by learned by doing it first hand.  That means 98% of the people will not retain what they are told.  I like the quote "knowledge knows when to speak and wisdom knows when to listen."  I'm afraid we are somewhat short on wisdom on this board.

Great new gal.
You had a great question, and you are going to be a great MT.  If my response sounded a little cranky, I did not mean to be.  My point is after 25 years, I am not in the business of practicing medicine, and my inclination is that the doc, being a good doc, removed the colostomy bag and examined the colostomy site; and what he actually meant was, "no blood coming from colostomy site".  But to add the word  site or bag, when he said neither, gets into the business of practicing medicine and that is not our business. The best thing to do is put the responsibility back on him and go verbatim.  You are going to be a great MT, I worried to death about things exactly like this 25 years ago.  Good luck and come on the board anytime, plenty of people helped me, and still do.

I do think it must be organism/bacteria, and you probably have them right. But how do they expect us to know what they are talking about when they throw out obscure acronyms like that?

Thanks again!

you have support from the MTSO, at least.

All my books agree with you, and I remember this being discussed in many forums. The word smiths always agree it should be 2 words. Maybe this coder would like you to start throwing codes around in reports?? Then tell her not to change your codes. :oD
