The normal sedimentation rate (Westergren method) for males is 0-15 millimeters per hour, females is 0-20 millimeters per hour. The sedimentation rate can be slightly more elevated in the elderly.

So, I would type it out. I never abbreviate it.

It is recommended that narrow band scales be used in conjunction with questionnaires that assess social and educational impairment and screen for the presence/absence of comorbid psychiatric conditions. Tools that have been developed for efficient use by primary care clinicians in children and adolescents include:
Vanderbilt form: comprehensive form that screens for symptoms, impairment and comorbidity (Wolraich et al., 2003 [C], Wolraich et al., 1998 [C]). Available in the American Academy of Pediatrics/National Initiative for Children’s Health Quality (AAP/NICHQ) ADHD Practitioners’ Toolkit.
Combination of the Conners Scales + DSM-IV checklist + comorbidity screening
For adolescents: add Conners'-Wells' Adolescent Self-Report Scale to one of the above options.

Jamais vu

Main article: Jamais vu

Jamais vu is a term in psychology (from the French, meaning "never seen") which is used to describe any familiar situation which is not recognized by the observer.

Often described as the opposite of déjà vu, jamais vu involves a sense of eeriness and the observer's impression of seeing the situation for the first time, despite rationally knowing that he or she has been in the situation before.

Jamais vu is more commonly explained as when a person momentarily does not recognize a word, person, or place that they already know.

Jamais vu is sometimes associated with certain types of amnesia and epilepsy.

The patient is moribund. She is unable to speak at the current time and does not respond to sternal rub. "Chiller" venous veins appear normal. Site of the PEG tube is normal without any evidence of exudates.

She is 92 years old and comfort-care only. Here is some past history:

Past medical history is significant for progressive dysphagia leading to frequent bouts of aspiration secondary to a prior cerebrovascular accident in 1997, recent admission for probable aspiration bronchitis/pneumonia, history of hypertension, history of thyroid replacement therapy, history of possible dehydration. She has a prior history of cataract, prior history of gallbladder surgery, recent PEG placement in 11/2005, status post TAH-BSO at age 40 and eyelid surgery in January 2002, history of chest pain admission in February 1996, history of cerebrovascular accident of the right internal capsule in June 1997, and history of TIA in August 2003.
Please tell me there are no jugular veins in the lungs. Did this doctor go med school?
Jugular veins end at bottom of the neck to subclavian veins, so how in the heck are there jugular veins in the lungs? He has to be in the neck!!!

I too love Google but be V_E_R_Y careful w/google
Subject: I too love Google but be V_E_R_Y careful w/google

Google is great for retrieving anything faster than the speed of light *lol* - but if the info comes from a nonverifiable medical website, be very wary.  There are a few I trust only...the NIH for one (Nat'l Institute of Health) and the CDC (Center for Disease Control) and a few others out of the government actually.

As for prescription places, I trusted rx.com for far too long, there are many more reliable drug websites out there... medilexicon.com is a great site and to confirm a proper name of a disease or things like that, there is whonamedit.com which, if you write to the site owner, can be added to (I have done some communication with the site owner so this is 100% true).

When I first started using google in MT work about 8 years ago as google is not that old, (got online 12 years ago, been an MT since 1980), I had looked up Spironolactone, and Google gave the spelling to me incorrectly and (who knew it was wrong?!?!??) I used their spelling and I was wrong.

So, only advice is be VERY CAREFUL what YOU CHOOSE to use as far as websites go regarding MT/ME work because in the end you're the one responsible....not google.
