I was taught many moons ago (way before there was even a BOS) that you don't, but I've seen it hyphenated.
Do you hyphenate salpingo oophorectomy?
Thanks!

Yes, it is hyphenated, salpingo-oophorectomy, it is one word, 3 vowels cannot be together, sm

Google:
Compounds with these prefixes are sometimes (but not always)
hyphenated to avoid doubling a vowel or tripling a consonant or vowel, and sometimes even to prevent initial misreading or mispronunciation.

Laparoscopic supracervical hysterectomy: Surgeon is entering peritoneum. She's opened the fascia, anchored it with Vicryl, attached CO2 and then she says something like "Lidopril" placed through. Pretty sure there are 3 syllables but she is swallowing the second half of the word. The "Lido" is fairly clear, but can't swear she isn't saying "Lighted". Anyone ever hear of lidocaine being placed with CO2 insufflation? After that, she placed 2 trocars and inspected the abdomen. Any idea what this is? I am stumped.

Subject: i mean, if bilateral is before is it singular and sm
how do you hand bilaterally. I am very confused on the singular and plural regarding these because doctors say it both ways.
For example, examination of the hip, knee, and ankle is normal bilaterally...singular.
So, is it always singular when you use these words? or an equivalent (left and right lower extremity or extremities, etc)
I have been doing this for 3 months but this seems to keep coming up and i am hearing it dictated both ways. Thanks ahead of time for any help :)
