Okay, I do not do op notes, but they threw one my way, he is also an ESL, so I am really struggling here.
doing a thoracentesis. patient placed in a sitting position in chair, the left hemithorax was cleaned with sl-clorex-ben solution.

A 10-cm, s/l "forearm area" was prepped with chlorhexidine and draped in the usual sterile fashion. The fourth intercostal space was identified and a syringe, with a needle and 1% lidocaine with epi, was used to anesthetize the skin, subcutaneous tissue, periosteum and pleura. Would this be correct-- maybe the forearm was prepped for IV, but this was not stated.

I looked this up in Taber's. Under pleurocentesis, it does not give a definition and only says thoracentesis. Under thoracentesis, pleurocentesis is given as a synonem. Hope this helps.

All I find in the Dictionary of Eye Terminology is fiberoptic light pipe. Will look around a bit more.

Sputum culture of patients at Siriraj Hospital, Bangkok was 49.84% positive for bacterial pathogens in 1994 and 40.95% in 1995. The average incidence of gram-negative rods was 3.11 fold more than the combination of gram-positive cocci and gram-negative cocci. The most common gram-negative rod was Pseudomonas aeruginosa, followed by either Klebsiella pneumoniae or Acinetobacter anitratus depending on year. The most common coccus was Staphylococcus aureus. From both years, the number of Haemophilus influenzae, Streptococcus pneumoniae, Burkholderia pseudomallei and Nocardia spp isolated were 122, 93, 13 and 11 strains respectively. For antimicrobial susceptibility, P. aeruginosa was sensitive to ceftazidime, imipenem, gentamicin, amikacin, netilmicin, ciprofloxacin (range 56-89%). S. aureus (MSSA) was sensitive to common used drugs. S. aureus (MRSA) was sensitive to co-trimoxazole, fosfomycin, vancomycin (range 57-100%) and resistant to most drugs.

Once again, I don't think that I'm close. I have tried to Google the different words and I'm not coming up with anything and have also tried my Stedman's books. Thanks for any light that you can shed on this one.

Where I have "light cautery" it sounded like he stumbled and it came out "glicautery."
