Subject: I learned 27 years ago to use q.4h. (no spaces), past few years q.4 h. (see msg)

Now some are saying it's q. 4h.??  UGH, YUCK!!  I have also worked on accounts where it had to be "every 4 hours," and we had to spell out p.r.n. (as needed for).  At least we got more characters.

First rule:  It is all what the "client/account" wants, not always what the BOS says it is.  I realize that language and its usage is constantly changing, but I've seen so many BOS and client flip-flops on so many other things in nearly 3 decades that it's laughable.  What isn't laughable is when we get penalized for not knowing what they want, even when they, themselves, don't know or are wrong.

Oh, and I still prefer the old no spaces:  q.4h., q.4-6h., q.12h., and so on.....

and a constant thirst for learning something new everyday. As we all know this can get to be somewhat boring, but learning from what I transcribe as well as from other transcriptionists keeps me going (money is not bad either). It becomes a challenge. But I can't thank you enough for the kind words.

Just as people and the world have evolved, so has English. 'Were' would now be considered correct.

I do realize it's not the grammar rule we were taught back in our school days.

If you changed the wording to what you thought was correct, sm

it would imply that the colostomy bag was bleeding, not blood coming from the colostomy.

Tooooooooooo long ago. :)

I'll have to remember that in case I ever have the need to go back to neuro.  Not one of my favorites, kinda sad, but okay at the time.

When I said "cool" I really meant it.  I like to pass through word help occasionally.  You never know what you're going to find.

Every little bit helps.

Disk

To my knowledge disc with a C is for the back and disk with a K is for the eyes.

we know if it's disk or disc and which is the preferable way to go and we also know that it's bottom line - CLIENT PREFERENCE.

Now, if you continually cannot help anyone in this thread and merely want to be confrontational and into one upmanship, please leave the board and find a more confrontational one upmanship place to hang out....it would be GREATLY appreciated by probably everyone.

Disc or disk
Subject: Disc or disk

What is correct?   C-spine herniated disc or disk?  Degenerative disc or disk disease, etc.  I have seen this both ways.  Confused.

Thanks

disk disease?

I'm hearing disk disease but I'm more familiar with degenerative disk disease or lumbar disk disease. Is just the term disk disease fairly common? Thanks.

Per BOS, disK is preferred for both.

Disk or Disc
Subject: Disk or Disc

I am typing a report of an L4-L5 disk herniation, but I see on google it is spelled with a C at the end instead of a K, so just wondering now if spelling it disk is correct or not?

Thanks!

disc/disk
Subject: disc/disk

OK, so I am officially an oldtimer! Actually I asked my TL if I could use "disc" for back stuff because I just like how it looks so much better than "disk". He said I could, however in the EYE, it is "disk". So another difference of opinion here.
disc vs disk
Subject: disc vs disk

My understanding is BOS says "disc" pertaining to the eye and "disk" for all other anatomical terms not related to the eye.

Subject: disc vs disk - poll please

I thought the preferred word to use for both oph and ortho was disc.  Either are okay to use, but keep it consistent in your transcription, disk for spine, disc for eyes.  I guess it just depends who you work for.  What do you all use?
