The patient is supine, the affected side lying close to the edge of the table, the hip and knee of the non-affected side (if the lower trunk pain is unilateral) are flexed. The patient is directed to clasp his hands around the flexed knee and hold it to his chest. The patient is then brought toward the side of the table and the opposite lower limb is extended over the table edge at the hip. The examiner then applies downward pressure against the clasped knee and against the knee of the extended hip. Exacerbation of pain from the pelvis constitutes a positive test.
Significance: The test is specific of a sacroiliac joint lesion.
