He could have spurring of the heel and you are confused and are spurring us to give you the correct answer and since you want to be sparing to choose the correct word you are ready to start sparring with the dictator!
spurring - the bony formation or encourage or prompt.
sparing - frugal, lenient
sparring - as in to argue or fight.
