I would have been less forthcoming...you know, I got my job on my own...she should as well. Did someone give you a job without your having earned it yourself? And how do you suppose she will keep it IF she gets it? Will she blame yourself for not knowing how to be an MT (just getting quick fix answers here without knowing how to research or having an understanding of what she is transcribing?) or will she blame this board for not helping her enough?

I can symphathize with being new...everyone started out as a newbie; however, I do not condone - nor has this board - answering job test questions. And if she had books as resources as she stated, her questions on this board discredit that statement.

I didn't say to use Google so that you could check "Joe's Spine Site". Most of us here use Google, and most of us are smart enough to know the difference between what we see on the Mayo Clinic or the American Heart Association websites versus other kinds of hits.

I do what my client prefers, the OP -- whether they mentioned that or not -- should do what their client prefers. Barring that, the only person here citing that there is a CORRECT (caps yours) usage for disc versus disk is you, and you just aren't a reference I trust so much, m'kay? I'll stick with my refs and my docs, thanks.

Still, you need take a breath before you have an aneurysm or something. I give surprisingly little thought to making you win or lose, just to answering the question.

what you typed in your post is above this line - with 4 typos in 8 words - you are only 50% in quality...IF THAT.

And Carol was nice enough to type the answer to you.....not realizing you're probably testing over offshore somewhere.  This is not allowed on this board - we do not supply answers to testers.

not the spelling police here - just annoyed that they come in here and use us for the answers.........and this one appears to be an offshore MT just by what all she/he misspelled.......some of the most basic words.

There are a lot of osteotomies, so the word osteotomy stands alone. Chevron is a type of osteotomy - not named after a person, but rather the type of incision (V), so it would not be capitalized. The word mini is an adjective that defines chevron (not mini- shortened for miniature which would be hyphenated).

mini chevron osteotomy is what you are looking for

Someone may disagree, but I gave reasons for doing it the way I did.

Subject: Oh my goodness. Cut the girl a break.

She's new.  She's already stated that.  She's trying to do a good job.  I don't think the answer is to kick someone when they are down.  She probably has received very resourceful information here as most are willing to help newbies.  Give the girl a chance!   She's not asking a s/l or asking the board to take her test for her, she's just feeling a little frustrated.

was when there are abnormalities in the CBC, the further studies that are typically performed (eg, iron, TIBC, ferritin, transferrin saturation, etc). Maybe these are too dependent on the lab performing the studies to have normals. I'm not certain.

Here's what I'd do for taking verbatim tests. sm
Subject: Here's what I'd do for taking verbatim tests. sm

First, ask the tester whether you should transcribe verbatim or strict verbatim and then do just that.

If instructed to transcribe verbatim, I would then add a note at the beginning of the test saying, "These reports were transcribed strict verbatim (whatever) as instructed. However, if these were dictations I would encounter on the job, I would flag such and such (and site the instance), change such and such to such and such, etc."

This would cover you both ways, showing that you followed their verbatim instructions but you also noted some discrepancies or grammar/punctuation things that needed to be fixed, etc.

If the companies you are testing for require 3 or more years' experience in medical records transcription, they really mean it. If you don't have this kind of experience, you are really doing yourself an injustice. From your questions below, I can see you're a newbie. I recommend your getting a job in a hospital or clinic where other MTs can give you the added instruction you need for this kind of work. It's the best advice I can give you.

Another point of advice: Research all the responses you get here for your questions. While intending to be helpful, some MTs do not provide the correct answers.

Then jot down all the words in a notebook you have to look up, all of them, with a bit of definition to go along with it. MT requires extensive research forEVER!

Good luck, Carrie!
