pelvi- and pelvo- are both combining forms for pelvis. Did not find either word in my GI/GU Words, but they do have pelvicaliceal, so my guess would be either one is correct. Google comes up with both.

If you don't have Stedman's Medical & Surgical Equipment Words book you should get it. This book is amazing. Pretty much any piece of medical/surgical equipment is in there. It is worth its weight in gold. If your company doesn't offer discounted books, you can purchase it a Amazon.com either new or used, and they have great used book. I bought my entire collection of Stedman's words book used. All of them are in at least good condition.

Does anyone own this book and CD? I was wondering if you can search the CD by instrument type as well as name, i.e. retractor. Sometimes I can't figure out what the name is. Thanks for the input!

Your reference is British. Note the spellings of centre, etc. Check Vera Pyle's book and Dorland's Medical Dictionary and also the American Medical Association reference for making nouns out of proper names. Our own BOS states not to capitalize words derived from eponyms.

...First, it's named after Dr. Homans (as the previous poster mentioned). Secondly, it is no longer proper in medical transcription to use the possessive forms of eponyms. That's why it is now "Alzheimer disease," "Kawasaki disease," "non-Hodgkin lymphoma," etc. The resources where you are finding it with an apostrophe are out of date. If I recall correctly, this new standard is only a few years old. (Why can't they just quit changing this stuff on us?!?!?!)

John Homans worked on experimental hypophysectomy with Harvey Williams Cushing (1869-1939) at Johns Hopkins. Homans, Cushing and Samuel James Crowe (1883-1955) in 1910 presented the first evidence of the relationship between the pituitary and the reproductive system. Homans later became interested in peripheral vascular disease.
His wife was Helen Perkins Homans. Their daughter Helen Homans died of pneumonia on November 22, 1916, while serving as a nurse with the Red Cross in France. Homans' three sons all graduated from Harvard.

While I realize it is the OP's responsibility to doublecheck whatever answers received here, and it's fine to be lazy in any other posts on the board, but IMO, it's still a good idea to give correct answers -- spelling, capitalization, and all -- when providing word help. Otherwise, if the OP is also "lazy" it will end up in a medical record the wrong way. Not major in this case, but could be in others ...
Just my opinion, of course.
