I cannot believe the literacy levels of the doctors coming out of medical school these days. I have one doc who doesn't know the difference between "calculus" and "calculi." He uses "calculi" every time, even when there is only one stone.

And another - OMG!! - she uses "nephrolithasis" interchangeably with "calculus" - as in, "There is a nephrolithiasis in the right kidney."

Ś-vent" sheath?? sm

Used in radiofrequency ablation of saphenous vein.  I can hear a "6" but not so sure of the "vent" part.  The "6-vent" sheath was inserted over the guide wire.  Anyone heard of this?

Thanks!

To QA- I understand what verbatim means-you do not need to tell me, and especially not with sarcasm and bossiness.  The word(s) you added were not in the dictation. In other words, what you apparently heard is not what I heard.

Thanks, I feel better.

This should say "six" vent sheath.
don't know why it came out that way in the title.

Subject: Omni-Vent is a definite...I told you

I was not sure about Nasonex.  Since I have no work until 9 AM and I get up early, I try to help people with only the terminology I know.  Otherwise I do not post.  I'm sorry I could not answer your question of Nasonex, but like I said, that is the only thing that comes to mind.  I looked in my drug books and found nothing other than that.  I looked in my ENT book as it has drugs listed and again nothing.  I have done a lot of research for you, be a little more appreciative.  Sounds like I got up on the wrong side of the bed this morning.  Good luck with your search.  Perhaps someone else can help you and that is your best bet when people start getting on.

Subject: I would spell it out, pulmonary arterial vent - sm

My department would not allow us to use made up words or slang, so I would spell it out as pulmonary arterial vent, or pulmonary artery vent, and I'm not even sure about the vent.  Maybe it should actually be ventilation.  I'd have to see the context.

And I quote: "Numerals, or figures, stand out from the surrounding text and serve a functional purpose in medical reports, where they should be used almost exclusively as opposed to spelled-out numbers.

Exceptions: Judgment and discretion are need when deciding but adjacent numbers require one to be spelled out to avoid confusion.

Use a comma to separate adjacent unrelated numerals if neither can be readily expressed in words and the sentence cannot be readily reworded.

Use numerals for fractions.

Spell out numbers that begin a sentence.

Zero is always spelled out when it stands alone.

Spell out numbers used as pronouns.

That should get you started!
