Psychotropic drug that s/l tro-uh-fawn?
Subject: Psychotropic drug that s/l tro-uh-fawn?

This is a psychiatric discharge summary.  The patient was admitted for alcohol abuse and suicidal ideation.  He had stopped his psychotropic medications due to inability to afford the medications and had tried to kill himself by going on an alcohol binge while on Antabuse.

The doctor says:
"The patient was restarted on psychotropic medications.  These included trazodone at bedtime to help with sleep.  He was started on medications that would be more affordable and perhaps as effective as his prior, more expensive, medications.  He was started on Depakote and ***** s/l Tro-uh-fawn*** , and the Lexapro, Campral, and Risperdal were discontinued."

The doctor later goes on to give the medication dosage as **** s/l Tro-uh-fawn **** 2 mg daily.

The closest thing I could find was Trofan, an amino acid used for the treatment of depression, but which has been discontinued as unsafe.  Any ideas?

Thanks to anyone that might have a clue for me!

I really like this online reference. I do have an abbreviations book, but with this one you can look it up by definition if you don't know the abbreviation.

i agree with melenic (it is a word), but if the doc insists on dictating "-otic" then i would give him melenotic with 2 e's, but not melAnotic which pertains to melanin, not melena... see the comments in the link given.

Robert James Graves (1707-1853)

So, it would be Graves' disease since it's named after somebody.
