CVA was cerebrovascular accident

c.v.a. was costovertebral angle.

Been doing that for 25 years. Maybe it was just my original employer hospital's preference. Interesting, isn't it, that you can do something for years and years and never know it was not correct. I won't forget now, that is for sure. hehe

Subject: Is your patient a male? There are male sounds and female sounds. sm

Male sounds are shaped differently than female sounds. Obviously, male sounds being longer. They are used to dilate the urethra in order to facilitate the passage of stones or perhaps JJ stents etc. They come in different diameters ie..18FR, 20FR etc. Hope this helps.

"There was a mild bladder neck contracture that we dilated with male sounds."

Male sounds? Is this correct? I googled it and saw something about male sounds, but it wasn't enough to make me feel comfortable leaving it in the sentence. Is that correct?

Male GU exam s/l something-taryx
Subject: Male GU exam s/l something-taryx

In the male GU physical exam, the doctor says:  "Penis normal.  Testes normal.  _____ normal."  I can't understand the first part of what he says, but the rest of it sounds like it ends in "ricks" or "ryx."  What could it be?  I could leave a blank, but I'm kinda curious....

Any help would be appreciated.  (And you don't even have to tell me how you know !)
