Please don't just quote ref. books
Please don't just quote reference books; I have my own, thank you, and they are all just as conflicted as yours. Stedman's, Tessier, Sloane, Google, etc., all list Moschowitz, Moschcowitz, Moskowitz and Moscowitz in roughly equal proportions. None gives an actual first name or cites the pioneering publication. Please, does anyone actually know who this procedure is named after? Is it hernia repair pioneer Alexis Moschcowitz of Mt. Sinai? Full doctor name and facility or publication title, please!!!!!

Don't spend too much for terminology books and be selective when doing such; you can look up just about everything online now and save it all to favorites.

Subject: I don't trust word books any more.
Like you, I have been running into this situation more and more lately. The Internet may not solve much, but it sure points out how unreliable all those word books are that we've been trusting all these years.
It's gotten so I don't trust any eponym reference unless it gives me first & last name with bio (hey, why not shoe size and zodiac sign while we're at it!)

its spellchecker to take out all the errors that were in it and have extended this overhaul to books published since mid April 2004....SO, if your Stedman book was published before that date, you will find misspellings.
And as others here like to say that BOS is not the authority, neither is Stedman. If Vera were still alive, I would still swear by her Current Medical Terminology but since Claudia took it over, I question its continued purity.

Heads up on Stedmans CD books
Subject: Heads up on Stedmans CD books
Hi all..
I have bought quite a few Stedmans CDs which are wonderful. Then came the Cardiology book and apparently all that will follow. They go on the ready reference bookshelf by LWW...It severely limits your abilities to search...for instance if you are looking for some kind of syndrome you can't hear what it is but you know it is a syndrome. where u can go into the books and look under syndrome and hope to hit pay dirt..The ready reference bookshelf doesn't allow you to search like that. Same thing with Quick Look Drug book 2008 same problem...The tech quy has said he has heard the same complaints...Just a heads up before you go wasting your money buy the books instead from here on out :-( Rots cause the CDs were 100 times easier. I complained and they don't seem to care what I think...Unless I am doing something wrong in my searches and anyone has an answer on how to fix the problem...We gotta stick together here...:-)

books - if I can't find it in my books, I go to the internet, but not before. Sometimes the internet can just give a whole lot of inaccurate info that takes a long time to go through (not that it isn't helpful in a lot of cases - I just don't always trust it).

It will make your life so much easier than trying to wing it with Google alone.
Also, research all responses you receive here, i.e., look up the definitions for "fulminate" and "fulminant" and you'll see what I mean. ;)

Docs mispronounce words all the time. 99% of my docs say Perm-a-Cath, but it is PermCath. Docs spell things and spell them wrong all the time. One of our jobs as MTs is to know enough to know doc is saying/spelling something incorrectly and correct it.

Subject: No, I do not have any reference books with the word "supertherapeutic" listed. (sm)
Stedman's electronic dictionary gives the definition of the prefix "super" as: In excess, above...
Webster's dictionary gives the definition of the prefix "super" as: over and above; higher in quantity.
Pharmaceutical documents use the term "supertherapeutic" doses.
