That's all I wanted to say because I'm starving right now and that sounds mighty tasty!

How would you handle this?
Subject: How would you handle this?
I have a doc who rather consistently uses the word "escharrified," meaning to him covered with eschar. "Scarified" really doesn't have anything to do with the already-existing presence of scars, and having an eschar isn't even close. But he keeps using it, and the general rule, as we know, is verbatim transcribing. I've been using it the way he says is for a while, now, but I feel like I'm crossing my fingers behind my back every time, and I WILL NOT add it to the spell checker dictionary!
Just wanted to poll other MTs out there and see how you would handle it and maybe get a consensus. Thanks!

why point it out? I highly doubt this newbie will blame this board for anything. She is going to learn new things from this board as we all have. She obviously was just feeling a little frustrated. But to blatently point it out I think is being a tattle tale. It is too bad you didn't have anyone to assist you. Neither did I at that time, but to blatently make her look bad on this board makes it seem like you are jealous or something. Aren't we supposed to be helping one another? If she lands the job, believe me, it won't be because she asked a verbatim question on this board. More than likely, this poor girl will land a job not paying very much and learn from that. She will eventually gain experience and knowledge. All of us experienced ones won't live forever. We need to support out future not rat them out.

Flipped bucket handle?
Subject: Flipped bucket handle?
I am reading a report for my mother and I am new to radiology and this is what I have:
"There is a large flipped bucket handle tear of the medial meniscus, anterior horn body and posterior horn with a large flipped component sitting in the anterior intercondylar notch"
What in the world does this mean in layman's terms? Is anybody willing to help? We are nervous because her MRI was yesterday and the surgeon called to get her in tomarrow morning already. I hope somebody knows what in the world this means. Thanks!

it really saddens (and scares me) when I get blasted for using BOS as a reference. BOS is not perfect, but it's what we have as our chief reference, and it is answering many of the questions posed here.

ER, I have always found chemo drugs pretty difficult and changing all the time. Chuck, I learn something every day on this board, that is why I come here so thanks for the correction.
Kathleen, thanks for the link. Sure will be helpful.
This is what a good forum is all about, helping each other and learning. Even with years of experience I love it that I can learn something new (and try to) every day.

That's exactly what it is. This doc is from Croatia, so sometimes his pronounciation completely throws me. I only have two guys with accents - Croatia and Turkey, so all in all I'm really, really fortunate. Tonight, my brain had just shut down.
Thank you so much!!!

i think it's because "small" and "moderate" are COMPARATIVE ADJECTIVES and the grammar experts say not to use a hyphen with comparative or superlative adjectives...geez...language is so weird, and MT is so hard, hyphens are the LEAST of our worries, yes? =)

Either this word was a new one on me or I just have not typed it in ages. The doctor was ESL so he was hard to understand.
Word for the day?
Refractoloxanticomb (brain) though it won't come up in Google unless you separate the refract and xanticomb.
I think, if they truly do take an English 101 course, they must also take a "made up medical terminology class". LOL.
