I am trying to explain to my boss why this sentence below does NOT need a comma:
The patient is very obese, but does not desire weight loss counseling at this time.
I KNOW the comma is wrong. She insists it should be there. If the sentence read, "The patient is very obese, but HE does not desire...." then it would be okay. Otherwise you take OUT the comma.
I have a M.A. in English, for Pete's sake, but I can't recall what this is called! Anyone know?
