In the account specifics for the company I work for they require that it is typed I and D because they say that when it prints on the other end for the doctor, the & doesn't print correctly. They say it looks funny, therefore we are not allowed to use the & mark at all. Thus, we always have to type it out I and D. That is the only reason I could see that they may be sending it back to you. But you may want to ask just for clarification.
