I just found VFFTC on there as I couldn't remember it and was having a major brain cramp. Always remember if it sounds like "B" it could be "V" and check both.

This site has helped me out a lot with those docs that like to abbreviate everything.

I actually had one doc that dictated, as fast as he could talk, under physical exam, WDWNLAM with no clue as to what part of the PE he was getting at. It took me a minute to realize he was abbrieviating "well developed, well nourished Latin American Male."

anything to do with cancer, The National Cancer Institute has a good website at www.cancer.gov.  There is a good drug dictationary in there at www.cancer.gov/templates/drugdictionary.  I have it under my "Favorites" section on the computer for an easy and fast look up.

I'm doing more neurology than I've ever had to do, and unfortunately one of the authors is not the clearest speaker. Trying to find some good references for EMG test results/terminology, have spent a lot of time Googling with no really good sites showing up yet. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Nuclear Cardiology
The Nuclear Cardiology Laboratory performs stress testing with and without cardiac imaging. Cardiac scintigraphy includes perfusion and functional imaging at rest and with physical or pharmacological stress. The section performs single isotope cardiac studies individualized to the needs of the patient and the referring physician. The laboratory can perform gated SPECT imaging to provide perfusion and functional assessment of myocardial viability in the short, horizontal, and vertical long axes. In addition to four SPECT cameras, the section has multi-crystal cameras for first pass angiography at rest or with exercise. The following studies can be done with exercise or pharmacological stress, with or without gated SPECT imaging: thallium-201 perfusion imaging; thallium-201/technetium-99m sestamibi perfusion and functional imaging, and technetium-99m sestamibi perfusion imaging with or without functional assessment. Positron emission tomography for tumor identification or myocardial viability is available following telephone consultation with one of the physicians.

Like the thallium scan, the sestamibi scan shows how well supplied with blood and oxygen your heart is. Sestamibi refers to the type of radioactive isotope used in this test to make the flow of blood visible. Thallium and sestamibi stress tests are more accurate and informative than a standard exercise stress test.

As with the thallium test, you will be connected to an electrocardiogram. You will be asked to exercise as hard as you can on a treadmill or bicycle. (If your doctor thinks that exercise is not safe for you or that you will not be able to exercise hard enough because of bone or joint problems, you will be given a drug that has the same effect on your heart as exercising.)
