Here is what the letters stand for. From About.com: Special Needs Children
Subject: Here is what the letters stand for. From About.com: Special Needs Children

The initials in V.A.T.E.R. syndrome refer to five different areas in which a child may have abnormalities: Vertebrae, Anus, Trachea, Esophagus, and Renal (kidneys). There may also be cardiac and limb conditions, which changes the acronym to V.A.C.T.E.R.L. A child diagnosed with one of these syndromes will not necessarily have a problem in every area, but a constellation of birth defects involving many of the areas. There is no currently known cause, but a gene defect is believed to be involved.

Normal blood pressure for children
Subject: Normal blood pressure for children

Does anyone know of a good reference regarding blood pressure readings in a well child versus sick child?

Would a pressure of something like 94/60 considered normal for a child? What would be considered high? Thanks.
Still easily confused with grade, type, stage....

etc. Anyone have a good website or way to remember whether to use Roman numerals or just numbers? My tired ol' head would appreciate it! Thanks to you all.

2.5 is 2-1/2 and 2.5 is the proper way to type it. It should be 2.5 mL in your sentence on your post. This is the rule for medications and recently they changed the way they want us to transcribe cc to mL, which was always the equivalent of each other and I don't know why they changed it (maybe they were bored). I understand that they think cc can be "miswritten" and "misread" as something else, but I think that should be directed at handwritten orders and documentation, not transcribed orders or documentation that is typed. The bottom line is they don't care what we think and we need to do it their way. I would never ever type 2.5 mL as 2-1/2 because it is not correct or professional to do so. Sometimes I think they just are bored and think of something to "fix."
