Subject: No, don't cap gram-negative. The test Gram stain is capitalized - per Stedmans Inf Dis Book. -sm

Also, I worked in a lab for many years, and gram-negative and gram-positive are not capitalized. Gram is the name of the doctor or scientist who came up with the staining test, Gram stain, so that is capped.

Subject: gram-negative, lactose-negative rods is correct. I found a couple of interesting websites SM

after doing a google search for gram-negative, lactose-negative rods.  Basically testing organisms to see if they ferment lactose (positive) or not (negative).

Also, just FYI, gram-negative is not capitalized.

Probably too late, I'm sure.  Better late than never, I guess.
