It sounds like "Over Obrien sign is negative."  Is that correct?  I can not confirm it anywhere.  I thought maybe it was Ober-O'brien sign but can't confirm that either.  Can anyone help?  TIA!

after doing a google search for gram-negative, lactose-negative rods.  Basically testing organisms to see if they ferment lactose (positive) or not (negative).


Also, just FYI, gram-negative is not capitalized.


Probably too late, I'm sure.  Better late than never, I guess.

I can't find anything even when I separate it out like the OP said.  I would like to learn what this word means if somebody could help me out.  Should it be xanth with an h instead of just xant? Even trying that, I am still stuck.

I always hyphenate when combining would put two of the same vowels together sm

Like re-enter or re-emphasize.  Or extra-axial.  Or intra-abdominal.


In another other case, if the meaning is clear and it is not confusing, I do not hyphenate.  Most clients seem to prefer minimal hyphenation.

What I do is type it as proximal-lateral. If the doc clearly says proximolateral, I would feel safe in typing it that way.

In the physical exam, neurology doc is spelling Meyerson's sign.  In two books I find Myerson under signs and cannot verify Meyerson's anywhere.  Any thoughts?  Thank you in advance for your help!
