BOS Question

Isn't there a rule somewhere in the BOS that says not to abbreviate measurements (such as cc or mL, etc.) when they are preceded by a vague or nonspecific number? I can't find it!!!
Here's an example of the type of sentence I'm talking about:
A subcutaneous injection of several cubic centimeters of 0.25% Marcaine plain was infiltrated for postoperative analgesia.
Wouldn't it be incorrect, according to the BOS, to transcribe this this way?
A subcutaneous injection of several cc of 0.25% Marcaine plain was infiltrated for postoperative analgesia.
I have both the book and the CD, and I've used the search feature, perused the abbreviation section, number section and International Units of Metric Measurements section but am not finding this rule!
