BNP vs BMP

Subject: BNP vs BMP

BNP: B-type natriuretic peptide - is a single test. B-type natriuretic peptide is released from the cardiac ventricles in response to increased wall tension, and the BNP test is for itself.

BMP: Basic metabolic panel - is a group of 8 tests, which includes tests for glucose and calcium; for the electrolytes sodium, potassium, chloride, and CO2/bicarbonate; and the kidney tests of BUN and creatinine.

When the doctor sounds like BNP/BMP, see if he is giving the results of a single test or a bunch of different tests that I mentioned above...then, pick either BNP or BMP depending on the results that he is dictating.
