You were right. It should be "average" in the para above under EBL, like this:
ESTIMATED BLOOD LOSS: 300 ml average.

Estimated blood loss (EBL) is, as the phrase denotes, an "estimate"; therefore, not unusual for the physicians to use the words, "average", "approximately", etc., with the volume under EBL.
