I was wondering which is preferred... typing out degrees or inserting the symbol. Does anyone know what BOS says about this? I have just been typing it out, but I have seen some reports done by other transcriptionists at my company that have the symbol instead. JUST CURIOUS

In expressing angles, write out degrees or use degree sign ( º ).

Use the degree sign in imaging studies.  If the symbol is not available, spell out degree or degrees.

Use the degree sign with ECG expressions related to QRS axis.  If the symbol is not available, spell out degrees. QRS +60º or QRS +60 degrees

Personally, I have to always spell out degrees, because the hospital's system doesn't accept the symbol...it might be a case-by-case thing with whatever account you are workin' on.

Should I type this as 6.90 minus 1 with swelling? Just had the same doctor with another patient coming in with labor, and she says "Cervix is 390 and 0."
