Yes, there might be global warming, and I don't scoff at the idea - I merely say that so far the science that has been done has not proven it.
The notion that if we don't accept the idea that global warming exists and undertake massive spending programs to do something "this very minute or we're all going to die" is simply alarmist bunk.
Consider also that getting the science right, even if it should prove global warming, will also help us to get a better handle on the causes so that we do the right things instead of just "anything". So far, the list of things that different scientists have said "causes" global warming is as long as your arm - and hydrocarbon emissions are beginning to pale in comparison to some of the items on the list.
And again, no one said we shouldn't be searching for alternative sources of energy. I said just the opposite, in fact, but I won't link that up with the notion of global warming until the science is much better.
Let me give you an example of the problem: Just the other day, scientists decided that the critical rise in sea level from global warming would take 100 years, not 10 years like they had been saying before. There have been other statements they've backed away from as well. It's not unreasonable at all to say "Let's get a grip on our knowledge of this situation first and then decide what to do."
We have time to find out whether there's a dragon in the cave, or just the echo of our own hysterical shouts.
