go to one of those countries if you want socialized medicine, but leave mine alone, thank you. Sorry, but I do not find this educational as it is only one-sided. Ask the people in some of those countries how they feel about it. you can site Canada all you want, but then see how many Canadians come to the states for medical care because the wait is too long or there is no money left for what they need. Canada has a system by which xx numbers of dollars are set aside each year for any given need. when the money runs out for that type of care, no one else gets it. For example, xx numbers of dollars are set aside for joint replacements. that money runs out in, let's say, october. If you fall and break your hip in november and there is no money left, oh well, too bad. you have to wait until the next budget year when they replenish that fund. Then look at their age limits. I do not want to be told that 60 is too old for a coronary bypass graft and that it would be "cost effective." Yes, that does happen. People are denied certain cares and allowed to die because of their age, at ages we consider still to be quite young. And look at how physicians are paid by existing government run programs. If you do any billing functions, you will see huge portions of the bills denied or written off, not to mention how many hoops you have to jump through to do any Medicare billing. I personally know several physicians who will leave their practices if govt is the only health care option as they fear it will run like Medicare, which has two big problems for them. There are, of course, many other problems. One is that it doesn't pay and the second is that it works like HMO, tells them what care they can and cannot provide. A single payor system eliminates all competition and provides no incentives at all. good care, bad care, who cares? It all pays the same under this system. It constitutes govt monopoly, and that, my friend, is never a good thing. ever. I do know we need some type of reform but having our govt as our only insurer is NOT the answer. Their history with trying to run Medicare and Medicaid proves it. You think administrative costs are high now in doctor's offices? Geez, let's get the govt involved. we all know how efficient they are, right?
