In Reply to: Why is gay marriage an issue? - Mrs. Peabody

Probably because there are a lot of strong feelings on both sides of the issue, which politicians know and play on, especially Republicans because, let's face it, there are a lot more people who feel strongly against gay marriage than for it. There's everyone in the middle who doesn't care one way or the other, but politicians, Republican politicians in particular, play off those who feel strongly against it to get into office. I mean, the Democrats aren't having big speeches directed at average Joe American about why we need to have gay marriage. It's all scare tactics of "we can't let these two people get married or it will be the downfall of the whole country." I think you can believe what you want about the issue itself, but that's why I think the politicians make a big deal out of it. Votes.
