Exactly how would it be punishing him to ask him not to spend my money on his date? Your argument doesn't make sense. I don't want to pay for anyone else's date with money I earned when I can't afford a date of my own that might cost $100 buck - and that doesn't even address how ridiculous is a $25,000 date?
