and what about people on fixed incomes who don't have mortgages

To restore funding for longstanding program commitments slashed, diverted and/or discontinued to fund the war. He cannot create "MORE" programs without majority support from Congress. Should he be able to garner such support, then we would call that representative democratic process, not socialist/Marxist black liberationist theology.
We've been struggling to pay the bills with 2 incomes! sm
My husband and I celebrated our 18th wedding anniversary on Sunday the 14th. We were actually better off financially as 21-year-old newlyweds than we are today. My husband pulled hiw wallet out on Sunday and began to flip through the few dollar bills he had when he said, "Do you realize I had more money in wallet the day we got married than I do today?" The poor guy was up sick most of the night and vomited all morning. I told him he couldn't go to work that sick and he said that he had to. He has no more vacation time left, we haven't even started shopping for our daughter yet with Christmas eve less than a week away.
Financially, this is the worst Christmas I have ever had. I don't know how anyone is supposed to "feel blessed" and "share the love," when I'm so stressed out from working so much OT and robbing Peter to pay Paul.
Sorry I have to stop here. I'll come back and try to finish.
Would you believe AT&T just called to let me know my phones are scheduled to be disconnected tonight at midnight? Ironic, isn't it??
"God Bless Us Every One!"
How do you figure that those with mortgages
Decreasing the mortgage payment by 30% would only lengthen the repayment terms. Mortgage holders wouldn't get anything out of it, but probably would end up paying more over the course of time due to interest.
What cracks me up is you asking "what's in it for me?" and then complaining about the greed of others. Hypocrits are everywhere.
LOL! Oh, I am sure Obama will pay our mortgages
nm
How many mortgages got sold to other banks?
Look at the big picture. They were selling houses to anyone who would sign on the dotted line - they did not give a fig whether or not you could afford it. They then boxed up a pile of these mortgages and sold them to other banks or mortgage companies with the premise - here's a box of rocks, there's gotta be a diamond in there somewhere. They WANTED these mortgages to fail. The housing market was booming - take the down payment, pass the mortgage around - foreclose on hapless patsies - and resell the house. They were MAKING MONEY OFF OF DOING THIS!!! But, they got greedy, and that box held all rocks and no diamonds. They screwed themselves as well as the American people who fell for this sham. But who is going to suffer the most?
I thought it was refinancing mortgages
at lower interest rates so the mortgagee can afford the payments? If you could see the blocks and blocks of boarded up homes in Cleveland.......ruining the value on the homes that are still occupied, increasing crime in what was decent neighborhoods.....I'd rather these homes be occupied and SOMETHING be paid back rather than leave them to the vandals and thieves who are stripping the siding, copper pipe and turning them into meth labs......
1 MILLION ILLEGALS have mortgages!!
nm
They not only can apply, they receive mortgages
%%
so, in other words, mortgages made
through private mortgage companies are not included?
DH and I should get our mortgage fixed....
we have no debt but our home, have never missed a payment or been late, pay a few hundred dollars extra every month towards the principal, have never taken out a HELOC or used our equity (quite a bit) for anything and have a fantastic credit score. We should have our rate lowered below the 5% it is now for doing a great job. But no, we'll give a break to those who bought too much house, had to compete with the Jones' and who took out foolish loans to begin with.
If it is broken, why haven't they fixed it?
Updated in light of today's news that kangaroo centers, petting zoos and ice cream parlors are included in Homeland Security's list of vulnerable terrorist targets:
If Its Broken, Why Haven't They Fixed It?
Fort Knox is robbed in an unusual way. Burglars break in through an air conditioning vent and shine a laser at the video cameras to blind them. Billions are stolen. The head of Fort Knox (let's call him the Chief) announces that no one could have foreseen this type of burglary. The commission investigating the robbery -- stacked with the Chief's business partners and friends -- finds that the break-in was unexpected. The commission makes numerous suggestions on how to thwart similar burglaries by installing motion detectors in the air conditioning vents and main vault. Independent researchers, however, discover that there have been many previous break-ins at repositories of valuable items where the burglars crawled in through the air conditioning vents and shined lasers at video cameras. They also discover that the Fort's security system would normally have caught the burglars in the act and alerted the military in time to stop the burglarly, but the system was undergoing a series of safety tests that night -- including some that were similar to what actually occurred -- and so the military assumed that the alarms were part of the test. There had been safety tests before, but never so many at the same time. The Chief personally scheduled multiple, overlapping tests for the night of the robbery, and then oversaw the operation of the tests and the Fort's reaction to those tests. Years pass, but the Chief does not follow the commission's recommendations. He fails to install any motion detectors. That's circumstantial evidence that the Chief was in on the heist. Why? Because if the robbery really had not been foreseeable and if he was innocent, he would have a very strong incentive to install motion detectors to prevent further robberies at the Fort. His personal reputation, the government's reputation, and its gold reserves would all depend on it. You can bet that he'd shore up the Fort's defenses. PerksLet's take it a step further: the Chief's personal bank account has suddenly gotten alot bigger after the heist. That helps to prove he was in on it, right? But it also shows that one of the reasons the Chief is leaving the Fort's defenses in a compromised state now is so that additional heists can occur, and he'll get more loot. 9/11Similarly, the 9-11 Commission -- stacked with cronies of the Bush administration (like executive director Philip Zelikow, who is very close to administration hawk Condoleeza Rice, and steered the Commission away from the most important lines of inquiry) -- found that the attacks were unexpected, despite very strong evidence that they were not, and despite the fact that the government scheduled numerous, overlapping war games for 9/11 -- some involving a plane flying into a building and others involving hijackings. And while the 9-11 Commission made numerous recommendations on how to prevent future terrorist attacks -- many of them simple and inexpensive to implement -- the Bush administration has failed to do so. Indeed, the Department of Homeland Security, instead of protecting vulnerable targets, has instead randomly made up lists which include kangaroo centers, petting zoos and ice cream parlors as high-priority terrorist threats. Just like with the Chief, the current administration's failure to make the recommended and preventative changes -- many of them cheap fixes -- despite billions being spent on supposed homeland security, is strong evidence that the administration was in on it. This is especially true because the administration has recieved so many perks from 9/11: justification for wars in Afghanistan (where a huge oil pipeline benefitting American companies was being held up by the Taliban) and Iraq (one of the world's largest oil producers), permanent military bases in the Middle East, and consolidation of power at home. And by failing to implement the recommendations of the 9-11 Commission, the administration keeps open the possibility that another terrorist attack will occur which will whip the now-dissenting American public into line, justify the invasion of Iran, and allow for the suspension of our remaining constitutional rights. The bottom line is that the administration's, like the Chief's, inaction to fix the alleged holes in security which allowed supposedly unforeseeable crimes to occur shows that they are guilty of the crimes, and hope to benefit from additional crimes in the future. And if foreign terrorists really had carried out 9/11, why is the government using all of its resources spying on innocent people who obviously have never met a terrorist in their life?
sorry came out off center. Fixed version.
I decided to post this at the top since things get lost in the shuffle so quickly here.
Right now there are single, low income mothers (and fathers I would assume) who by the time they get the earned income credit and claim head of household do not owe taxes and actually get back more than they paid in to begin with. So why haven't you been carrying on about that all along? (And when people without children are contributing to this with their tax money, why isn't that considered socialism?)
I don't get all the chaos over this issue.
Fixed news strikes again...LOL (sm)
You guys really do need to bring in some credible sources. The reality is that companies don't like unions, not because unions put them in a financial hole, but because they cut down on the profit margin (aka CEO wallets). Again, the republican goal is to make the rich richer and the poor poorer. This is a perfect example of that. You guys gripe about the CEO payoffs from the 700B bailout, but support an idea (killing unions) that essentially does the same thing.
I work for MQ. If we had had a union for MTs, then we wouldn't be in the mess we are now.

From Rupert Murdoch speaking about Fox dealing with economic downturn:
While it's impossible to be completely prepared for a downturn of this magnitude, we began priming ourselves for a weakening economy earlier last year. We implemented strict cost cutting measures across all our operations. We reduced head count in individual businesses where appropriate and we scaled back on capital expenditures.
Even on [finance] terms, we have never been a company that tolerates facts.

I'd be happy if they just reduced everybody's mortgage rate to a fixed 3%. sm
Then everyone is still responsible for the debt they took on, yet they're still getting a break. It would free up a couple hundred bucks a month for me, which I could then use elsewhere to stimulate the economy. Fewer foreclosures, banks are still getting their money.
You can't throw money at this problem and expect it to be fixed.
Spending and spending and then more spending isn't the answer - it just creates more of the same problems. It's true that Bush never met a spending bill he didn't like and that lost him a lot of support and, as you stated, created quite a bit of the mess we're in today. But Obama's spending really isn't doing anything to jumpstart the economy - okay, maybe in the short-term, but none of the money he's spending is sustainable.
Example: Part of his stimulus money went to pay for the salaries of police officers in Columbus, Ohio. For one year. The City of Columbus is broke and Mayor Coleman says that if things don't turn around soon, jobs that are going to be cut are... guess what? Policemen and firefighters. Even if those officers make it to next year, the city can't afford to take over paying thier salaries after that. Is Obama going to pay for it next year and the year after that?
When you're in debt, the first thing you learn is that you can't spend your way out of it. You have to cut back, "trim the fat", and learn to live on a tighter budget. What burns me is that none of the politicians in DC understand that because they don't have to live it - they do the majority of what they do on our dime.
It's not about doing nothing, but it's about doing what's right and since no one in DC even reads the spending packages they keep signing, you can't say even they know what's right anymore.

to burn in hell, call people's children ugly, etc. etc. Well, you might not BE gt, but you might as well be. Even the liberals don't agree with gt, or hadn't you noticed? Is that how your people justify killing people?
So then you only like to where people who say what you believe have to say.
Pretty sad. At least the consevatives here weather the storms and stay. That pretty much says a lot about you and them, too. It's sure not like you guys never took pot shots over there. Of course, I am sure it wasn't YOU. Right.
gee, 100,000 people vs. 400 people
100,000 = anti-war protesters
400 = anti-anti-war protesters

Now shoo, run along home now back to your hole or cave or whatever you crawled out of.
I consider the people..

This was a SMALL gathering, and as stated above, Jews tend to support abortion rights more than any other group (15-20%). So this small group hardly speaks for the majority of the Jewish Community.

She just got announced. I am not saying that there is anything in her background, but it is early and I am sure if there is one iota of a person in her background then we will here about it. For this whole experience thing, what have we got in the past 8 years and the past 8 before that with all of the so-called experience the Rep. think we need.
Why are we still bring up Rev. Wright? Can't we just move past that? We've heard it all.
Sorry, people....
The blame for the way Katrina was handled lays completely with the democratic Louisiana governor, Kathleen Blanco, and the democratic New Orleans mayor, Ray Nagin.
They didn't follow the protocol for disasters.
However, now Bobby Jinda, Republican governor, is in charge, and he is handling things the way they should have been back then.....
Why are people so
focused on outward appearances? It is a person's heart that shows true beauty......not their face. A face can change over time, but a pure heart remains and that is what is important.
Are these the same people
who can afford their cigarettes and beer?
people should have been more
people make financial mistakes... perhaps some people wouldn't be hurting so badly right now if they had been living within their financial means to begin with.
Why can't more people see that?
My husband has been saying that same thing for the past few years. I am so sick and tired of working so hard to make a good life for my family, only to have *big government* take half of my money to give to people who won't lift a finger and want government to take care of them. It just makes me sick! I don't know why so many people are so blind to this.
some people say
is the line Hannity uses to introduce such wild statements without accepting responsibility for stating them. The post says the GROUP endosed McCain -- did not libel McCain. Simply an example of how people are willing to run with any statement that supports their beliefs against a candidate.

Politicians are the only people in the world who create problems and then campaign against them.
Have you ever wondered why, if both the Democrats and the Republicans are against deficits, we have deficits?
Have you ever wondered why, if all the politicians are against inflation and high taxes, we have inflation and high taxes?
You and I don't propose a federal budget. The president does.
You and I don't have the Constitutional authority to vote on appropriations.
The House of Representatives does.
You and I don't write the tax code, Congress does.
You and I don't set fiscal policy, Congress does.
You and I don't control monetary policy, the Federal Reserve Bank does.
One hundred senators, 435 congressmen, one president, nine Supreme Court justices = 545 human beings out of the 300 million who are directly, legally, morally, and individually responsible for the domestic problems that plague this country.
I excluded the members of the Federal Reserve Board because that problem was created by the Congress. In 1913, Congress delegated its Constitutional duty to provide a sound currency to a federally chartered, but private, central bank.
I excluded all the special interests and lobbyists for a sound reason. They have no legal authority. They have no authority to coerce a senator, a congressman, or a president to do one cotton-picking thing. I don't care if they offer a politician $1 million dollars in cash. The politician has the power to accept or reject it. No matter what the lobbyist promises, it is the legislator's responsibility to determine how he votes.
Those 545 human beings spend much of their energy convincing you that what they did is not their fault. They cooperate in this common con regardless of party.
What separates a politician from a normal human being is an excessive amount of gall. No normal human being would have the gall of a Speaker, who stood up and criticized the President for creating deficits. The president can only propose a budget. He cannot force the Congress to accept it.

It seems inconceivable to me that a nation of 300 million can not replace 545 people who stand convicted -- by present facts -- of incompetence and irresponsibility. I can't think of a single domestic problem that is not traceable directly to those 545 people. When you fully grasp the plain truth that 545 people exercise the power of the federal government, then it must follow that what exists is what they want to exist.
If the tax code is unfair, it's because they want it unfair.
If the budget is in the red, it's because they want it in the red.
If the Marines are in IRAQ , it's because they want them in IRAQ .
If they do not receive Social Security but are on an elite retirement plan not available to the people, it's be cause they want it that way. There are no insoluble government problems.
Do not let these 545 people shift the blame to bureaucrats, whom they hire and whose jobs they can abolish; to lobbyists, whose gifts and advice they can reject; to regulators, to whom they give the power to regulate and from whom they can take this power. Above all, do not let them con you into the belief that there exists disembodied mystical forces like 'the economy,' 'inflation,' or 'politics' that prevent them from doing what they take an oath to do.
Those 545 people, and they alone, are responsible.
They, and they alone, have the power.
They, and they alone, should be held accountable by the people who are their bosses, provided the voters have the gumption to manage their own employees.
it's not about the people who can't
x
I want to know why people like
Dodd and Frank aren't being held accountable? Why aren't the CEOs being held accountable? It thoroughly ticks me off that this is literally being swept under the rug. I want to see some punishment here. It is like they all got a get out of jail free card or something. WTH? They all lined their pockets with money and we are the ones paying for it and suffering. People walking away with millions of dollars with no consequences at all while we are left to pay for their misdeeds. I'm totally disgusted! I say we clean house and start all over with new people. I wanna show these politicians that I'm tired of being screwed over by them. I really feel like this bailout was the rich bailing out their rich friends.
A lot of people are saying
Don't underestimate Gov. Sarah Palin. She knows more than people give her credit for and she's smart as a whip. Looking forward to the debate.
As for McCain's heath, I wouldn't weigh too heavily on that. He's been cleared of cancer now for at least 7 years by his doctor and is cancer-free. To be worried about that would be the same if something was to happen to Barack or Biden - would you really trust Pelosi as president? That would be too laughable if it weren't so scary. I would say if you agree with McCains policies (which I believe are going to be better for the country than Barack Osocialist's policies) then vote for him. Also remember. There are people who direct every president. There has never been any president who has ever done anything without the approval of their bosses. At least John McCain and Gov Palin will be surrounding themselves with the people who know what's going on and how to handle whatever situation arises with better solutions than the people who Obama would surround himself with. I trust that more than anything.
Yep! And yet so many people still want
more government! Unbelievable.
Because so many people are NOT sensible

What you do with this article now that you have read it
is up to you, though you appear to have several choices.
1. You can send this to everyone in your
address book, and hope' they' do something about
it.
2. You can agree to 'vote against'
everyone that is currently in office, knowing that the
process will take several years.
3. You can decide to 'run for office'
yourself and agree to do the job properly.
4. Lastly, you can sit back and do nothing, or
re-elect the current bunch.
YOU DECIDE, BUT AT LEAST SEND IT TO EVERYONE IN YOUR

MAYBE SOMEONE IN THERE WILL DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT

Then the need for welfare would be obsolete.
In our backwards town the people you are reporting to are more than likely relatives of those on welfare! I've brought it up a few times to officials, but nothing ever gets done. They basically say "mine your own business" well it is my business if it's MY tax dollars.
I'm glad to hear things are working out for you now. We aren't very high on the hog either, about at his ankles I would say :) but we get by, and we reach out to those we can. I love our church because they reach out a lot and I've seen at least five people come in who never attended our church and no one at our church knew, and I've watched members hand them money, knowing they would probably never see them or it again. I've watched our preacher take the money from the offering plate and hand it to them. Which is what a church should do. Now maybe those people weren't nothing but drug addicts or alcoholics, but people gave freely, and that's the difference. No one should be forced to give to those less fortunate. That just breeds animosity and class warfare.
I like to give most people the benefit of the doubt, and I tend to trust in people as a whole, but the more I get burnt, the more trust I lose in society as a whole. I'm learning to look at people with a more critical eye, and I don't know if that is a good thing. But after all the abuse of the system I have seen in my town and the towns surrounding, it just makes me really against giving anymore into the welfare system. Not without a total revamping of it. But, we are forced to, so I guess I will! :)
I know people who have had
