Saying that someone is "playing the race card" means that they have brought race into a conversation that didn't previously contain it, to gain a rhetorical advantage. Marmann bringing up examples of racist speech by Gibson isn't "playing the race card," because the conversation was already about racism. Marmann's suggested Google search is informative; I'd suggest trying it.
