Is Anyone Minding the Store at the Federal Reserve?
05/08/09 Rep. Alan Grayson asks the Federal Reserve Inspector General about the trillions of dollars lent or spent by the Federal Reserve and where it went, and the trillions of off balance sheet obligations. Inspector General Elizabeth Coleman responds that the IG does not know and is not tracking where this money is.
Stoking the fires
Regarding your post - Those fires don't need stoking. They have been burning since 500 years after the birth of Christ.
I would say to this that obviously violence has done nothing to put out those fires. We bomb one country and the torch gets passed to a different country. Until we realize that this is not a traditional fight in the sense of WWI and WWII we will be on the losing end. That torch that is being passed from country to country has now become an inferno. We have in essence thrown gasoline on those fires that have been burning.
As far as no attacks since 9/11, not sure why that is - I do not have a crystal ball and all the speculation in the world will not provide facts about why that is. But I do not feel that will last. Hope I am wrong.
State Fires 2 for Looking at Obama File
State Fires 2 for Looking at Obama File State Department Fires 2 Workers for Inappropriately Looking at Barack Obama's Passport File The Associated Press WASHINGTON
Two contract employees for the State Department have been fired and a third disciplined for inappropriately looking at the passport file of Democratic Sen. Barack Obama's passport file, a spokesman said Thursday.
Spokesman Sean McCormack said the department itself detected the instances of "imprudent curiosity," which occurred separately on Jan. 9, Feb. 21 and March 14. He would not release the names of those who were fired and disciplined.
"We believe this was out of imprudent curiosity, so we are taking steps to reassure ourselves that that is, in fact, the case," McCormack said.
Bill Burton, a spokesman for Obama's presidential campaign, called for a complete investigation.
"This is an outrageous breach of security and privacy, even from an administration that has shown little regard for either over the last eight years. Our government's duty is to protect the private information of the American people, not use it for political purposes," Burton said.
"This is a serious matter that merits a complete investigation, and we demand to know who looked at Senator Obama's passport file, for what purpose, and why it took so long for them to reveal this security breach," he said.
McCormack said it was not immediately clear what the contract employees may have seen in the records or what they were looking for. He said he did not know the names of the companies they worked for.
The department has informed Obama's Senate office of the breach, and a personal briefing for the senator's staff was scheduled for Friday, McCormack said.

You must go through a LOT of windows in

Setting the record straight.
It is not spinning someone else's thoughts to ask them a question about those thoughts. I asked you how you felt about Mrs. King. Spinning is saying something like, you HATE Mrs. King. Courteously, I did not do that. You did however do that to me by assuming I hate Bush. By the way, what posts were those in which you expressed your admiration for Mrs. King? You referred to them but I don't see them here. Maybe you were singing her praises on the Con board? Might be why I missed them, as I don't go there.
Talk radio all abuzz about the impropriety? LOL!! We know what type that is. The story hardly got a slight clip on any of the network news stations - that right there ought to tell you that they were very squeamish about how bad it made Bush look. Had it been anything like a true classless act by Democrats, Rove would have made sure it was network news 24/7 for two weeks.
And what is this about implying that I said Repubs were to blame for ruining Wellstone's funeral? I said no such thing. What Repubs did (in their perpetual terror of ordinary people banding together to express sentiments that uplift the soul and give them hope) was to try to spin the whole thing as a bash fest against themselves and the deceased - much as your favorite radio host is doing now with Mrs. King's memorial events. THAT was the connection and deliberately trying to misunderstand it is lame.
Don't really give a hoot if you admire people of both parties - I think I was pretty clear that I rather admire GBI myself. Anybody taking in the whole scene and using good judgment is going to find traits they admire across the board. Which Dem did you say you really admire? I missed that. Let me guess - Zell Miller? Hahah!
And for the record, I don't hate Bush. I just believe he's an enabler who has no respect either for the working people of this nation or for our founding priciples and therefore has no business being in the White House.
setting the stage for a war with iran
Maybe this will come to nothing, but the NYT reports today (http://www.nytimes.com/2009/02/20/world/middleeast/20nuke.html?hp) that ''the amount of uranium that Tehran had now amassed — more than a ton — was sufficient, with added purification, to make an atom bomb.''
So here we go again, people nudging us towards war, with the complicity of the Times. We'll pretend that a nuclear weapon is something you can cook up in your kitchen, once you have the requisite number of atoms. We'll pretend that this is The Greatest Threat We Have Ever Known. Even bigger than Saddam, who ended up not having all the WMD the NYT said he did. We've already begun playing around with 2007's National Intelligence Estimate (see LA Times http://www.latimes.com/news/nationworld/washingtondc/la-fg-usiran12-2009feb12,0,3478184.story) to make Iran seem more dangerous.
We really just can't leave *anyone* alone, can we?
Okay, thought you were setting me up - see message
Truthfully this is what I think and please nobody get up and "bash" me for my beliefs.
First you cannot use the forged one posted on Factcheck. Factcheck is an organization backed by the same people who put Obama in place.
Truthfully, this is what would satisfy me...
An independent panel of equal number of republicans and democrats to go to the Hawaii state office and inspect the certificate themselves. The original form that was supposedly submitted to the state office when he was born. It is the long form we fill out at our hospital when a baby is born and it is typed by typewriter. What is on the Factcheck site is a computer generated certificate. It is not the Live Certificate of Birth. And on top of that it is a bad forgery.
So, if an independent panel of say 2 democrats and 2 republicans and a certified document specialist (who has been trained to detect forged documents) was to look at it I would be happy.
I know a lot of people will say "sour grapes", "yawn", "disgruntled", "beating a dead horse" and every other word, but here are my feelings deep down. First, if he truly is legite then that is fine. Good for him., but it's just very odd because while every candidate since who knows when has had to submit proof of birth (not a computer generated certificate that you can create in photoshop), but the actual long form that was typed in a typewriter (there were no computers back then, so seeing a computer generated certificate throws up a red light for me), however while everyone has had to show theirs, Obama did not. Also, Obama had every opportunity available to go to Hawaii, get his original type written Certificate of Love birth and submit it to the state he did not. Time and time again he was asked to submit it and he just always ignored it. The supreme court asked and he ignored them. Now you have to know that if it was John McCain and he ignored/snubbed them the media and everyone would be all over his back. Why is it different for Obama. He knows of the huge contraversy. If that was me I would have marched over to the state retrieved of copy submitted it and I would have shoved it in everyone faces and said - see, here it is I'm legite, now shut up about it and lets move on.
However, the more he ignores, and his supporters try to silence the people trying to get at the truth, the more suspicion it brings up. Why not simply satisfy what everyone wants to know and prove his birth.
Now...with that said I'm not saying I don't believe he is not American born. I don't know because it has not been proven yet. But...there are too many unsettling facts of which I won't even bring up.
But to answer your question, an equal number of both republican and democrat, maybe even an indendent to go to Hawaii and look at the long form that if there is one it would be typed on the typewriter. If a report came out tomorrow and said this was done I'd be happy. And not a party of just democrats or people who Obama promises things to to go look at it. I would then be happy.
But I don't bring up the birth certificate because the democrats have been able to sweep it under the carpet and get away with what they have. Besides there is absolutely nothing at all I can do about it. The only reason I posted was because someone posted that the certificate is on Factcheck when we all know Factcheck is not a reputable source for the truth and what they have up there is a forgery.
Good for you! Most people would not recognize good...sm

Bush has record-setting accomplishments!
I saw this at another site and felt it was worth copying for any interested LIBERALS on the LIBERAL BOARD.
George W. Bush: accomplishments as president
* Attacked a nation that posed no threat to us. * Spent the surplus and bankrupted the treasury. * Shattered record for biggest annual deficit in history. * Set economic record for most private bankruptcies filed in any 12 month period. * Set all-time record for biggest drop in the history of the stock market. * First president in decades to execute a federal prisoner. * First president in US history to enter office with a criminal record. * First year in office set the all-time record for most days on vacation by any president in US history. * After taking the entire month of August off for vacation, presided over the worst security failure in US history. * Set the record for most campaign fund-raising trips than any other president in US history. * In my first two years in office over 2 million Americans lost their job. *Cut unemployment benefits for more out of work Americans than any president in US history. * Set the all-time record for most foreclosures in a 12 month period. * Appointed more convicted criminals to administration positions than any president in US history. * Set the record for the least amount of press conferences than any president since the advent of television. * Signed more laws and executive orders amending the Constitution than any president in US history. * Presided over the biggest energy crises in US history and refused to intervene when corruption was revealed. * Presided over the highest gasoline prices in US history and refused to use the national reserves as past presidents have. * Cut healthcare benefits for war veterans. * Set the all-time record for most people worldwide to simultaneously take to the streets to protest me (15 million people), shattering the record for protest against any person in the history of mankind. * Dissolved more international treaties than any president in US history. * My presidency is the most secretive and un-accountable of any in US history. * Members of my cabinet are the richest of any administration in US history. (the 'poorest' multi-millionaire, Condoleeza Rice has an Exxon oil tanker named after her). * First president in US history to have all 50 states of the Union simultaneously go bankrupt. * Presided over the biggest corporate stock market fraud of any market in any country in the history of the world. * First president in US history to order a US attack and military occupation of a sovereign nation. * Created the largest government department bureaucracy in the history of the United States. * Set the all-time record for biggest annual budget spending increases, more than any president in US history. * First president in US history to have the United Nations remove the US from the human rights commission. * First president in US history to have the United Nations remove the US from the elections monitoring board. * Removed more checks and balances, and have the least amount of congressional oversight than any presidential administration in US history. * Rendered the entire United Nations irrelevant. * Withdrew from the World Court of Law. * Refused to allow inspectors access to US prisoners of war and by default no longer abide by the Geneva Conventions. * First president in US history to refuse United Nations election inspectors (during the 2002 US elections). * All-time US (and world) record holder for most corporate campaign donations. * My biggest life-time campaign contributor presided over one of the largest corporate bankruptcy frauds in world history (Kenneth Lay, former CEO of Enron Corporation). * Spent more money on polls and focus groups than any president in US history. * First president in US history to unilaterally attack a sovereign nation against the will of the United Nations and the world community. * First president to run and hide when the US came under attack (and then lied saying the enemy had the code to Air Force 1) * First US president to establish a secret shadow government. * Took the biggest world sympathy for the US after 911, and in less than a year made the US the most resented country in the world (possibly the biggest diplomatic failure in US and world history). * With a policy of 'dis-engagement' created the most hostile Israeli-Palestine relations in at least 30 years. * First US president in history to have a majority of the people of Europe (71%) view my presidency as the biggest threat to world peace and stability. * First US president in history to have the people of South Korea more threatened by the US than their immediate neighbor, North Korea. * Changed US policy to allow convicted criminals to be awarded government contracts. * Set all-time record for number of administration appointees who violated US law by not selling huge investments in corporations bidding for government contracts. * Failed to fulfill my pledge to get Osama Bin Laden 'dead or alive'. * Failed to capture the anthrax killer who tried to murder the leaders of our country at the United States Capital building. After 18 months I have no leads and zero suspects. * In the 18 months following the 911 attacks I have successfully prevented any public investigation into the biggest security failure in the history of the United States. * Removed more freedoms and civil liberties for Americans than any other president in US history. * In a little over two years created the most divided country in decades, possibly the most divided the US has ever been since the civil war. * Entered office with the strongest economy in US history and in less than two years turned every single economic category heading straight down.
Of course I don't have any proof. I'm not peeping in his windows..sm
trying to see if he's going to drink or not. You have no proof that he doesn't drink. This is all speculation.
This is a bunch of bunk. If you think discussing the wrong doing of one person holds no water because other people are doing or have done it too, then I'll just have to agree to disagree. That's like saying, it's OK because the Clinton's and Kennedy's did it. Again, whatever gets you through.
I think the discussion we need to be having is that the media needs to get out of these people's personal lives.
board up all windows and doors
set radios at full volume in each room to various right wing talk shows - Savage, Hannity, O'Reilly, Malkin. Cower in basement. Just do what any reasonable True Believer would do, silly.
If you like this, it's easy using Windows Photo Story 3.
Projects like these basically take a few simple steps:
1. Find the photos.
2. Find a no-royalty music sample.
3. Stick 'em into Windows Photo Story3 and use the tools to add captions, select transitions between photos, zoom and pan effects to the photos themselves, and add audio.
You could also use Windows Movie Maker if you want to do some of this with movie clips instead of still photos.
The last step, if you want to post to YouTube, etc., is to convert the "WMV" (Windows Media) format that this will create to another format like MPEG or FLV (Flash). There are some free converters out there, as well as companies like A-One Software that have just about any converter you'd want.
Basically, a converter is a very simple piece of software that lets you import a file of one type and save it as another type.

To gt and the other good people on this board
They're back, and they're back with a vengeance. Their pitiful little lives must be going very badly for them, poor babies. Maybe winter has arrived, and they realize they can't afford to heat their homes, and they're upset and angry. Or maybe they're just basically hateful, vengeful people who have to evict all the old built-up hatred in their tiny hearts to make room for new anger and hatred to reside.
Either way, they just can't seem to leave us alone. I suggest we ignore every single post -- don't even read it and don't respond to it.
There are some people for whom reason is beyond reach, and all we do is feed their hatred.
I say we ignore them until their current hate *wave* passes.
And lots of people are good at
POUNCING. ;-)
People pay good money to have their links
show up under a certain word search. Do you actually think that this happened by pure chance, or because the google search engine defaults the word failure to immediately pull this POS site by happenstance? It was paid for. What's even more hilarious is how much this poor schlump parted with for that privilege. You all seriously need to find some adult topics to talk about instead of thinking that google has a liberal's brain.
Being kind to other people feels good, too.

Looks like the good people of Connecticut made the right choice. sm
In a conference call with reporters Wednesday night, Cheney implied that US Senator Joe Lieberman's (D-CT) loss to anti-war challenger Ned Lamont was a victory for al Qaeda types.
If Lieberman is neocon friendly, you want to definitely aim the Raid can in his direction.
Want to take a wild guess on who Cheney meant by al Qaeda types? Christianne Amanpour from CNN is comparing 911 truthers and liberals to al Qaeda and the alleged terrorist threat yesterday.
People are ignoring Sally, and for good reason.

Yeah, it was, sorry.....I just don't think poking fun at sick people is a good thing to do....

History does repeat itself at times. I had forgotten about the 50s and Russia.
Very scary times we live in and so many new enemies. This is definitely not a scare tactic but a very clear warning. You can't ignore facts, they are there.

I can't stop laughing at the row v wade line!
As far as everything else you said, I couldn't agree more. Thank you for posting your honest feelings. It helps a lot to know that all those who are born again aren't of the radical mindset that is usually shown on these boards.

That is the trouble with radical right wingers..they think the world is evil or good..black or white..you are either with us or not..axis of evil..LOL..simple thinking for complicated times, if you ask me..

(off topic: A 17-year old deputy. That's kinda young for the job I would think.)
Booze does amplify the personality. You do and say things that you would not have if you weren't 'under the influence.' I can't overlook the fact that Mel's father says the the Holocaust did not happen, and is fiction. The same father who moved his family to Australia so that his older brothers would not have to go to Vietnam mind you. What's that saying about apples?
I've learned to separated the man from the movies. Passion of the Christ, I loved.
Pol Pot...not a good example. sm
Pol Pot would have never been allowed his free reign had we stayed the course in Vietnam. The left got their wish. We withdrawn. Millions died. But the left never talks about that.
As far as *we* killing blacks and American Indians. I never killed anyone. Africans were caught and sold by their own people to the slave traders. We can sit and assign guilt until now to kingdom come. To read posts like this further illustrates the people in this country who think of the U.S. as the great Satan.
This is very good to know.
This seems to diametrically oppose what Marylandgal is saying, too.
Good for you and good for him!
I think he is going to go a long way and I think he would make a very deliberate and thoughtful president that could just lead us out of this quagmire the country is currently in, and I think he has the better national healthcare proposition on the table. I hope he maximizes on his momentum. New Hampshire may not be so quick to endorse though.
Well seeing as none are very good...
I think that because none of them are the perfect choice, I want a good speaker to represent us. I'm not in love with Obama, some of what he does is a little unnerving. What Hillary is about just downright scares the you know what out of me (as does McCain - that relic should be in some sanitarium somewhere) - how he made it I don't know because I believe there were a lot of other more qualified candidates on the repubs side. Anyway...seeing as none of them is the "ideal" candidate I at least want someone in who is a good speaker and who can represent our country in a dignified and intelligent manner. Hillary does not. I've listened to her speeches with an open mind hoping (I mean really really hoping) that I would feel differently about her because there was a possibility she could be chosen. But every time she speaks it just brings my hopes down. Her thoughts are not together. She cannot read without constantly looking at her notes, and most of what I hear is "women, women, women. We've been done wrong to and now its payback time. We're going to make them pay for what they did to us, etc, etc (of course not in those exact words - but that is the implication of her speeches). I've not once heard her give a speech of hope and promise. What she does say is more of the same retoric. More of "I'm going to give you this or that - which is what they promised when Bill was campaigning years ago, but never filled their promises back then. That is why I do not believe any of what she says. False hopes.
So yes....candidates are not all that great, but I want a great speaker to talk to other countries and not make us look like fools which is what George Bush & Bill Clinton did when they were in. I also want our leader to talk to our allies AND enemies. Everyone needs to live together in peace and if there is a slight chance that Obama can do it I'm for it. This whole idea that Clinton and McCain will "threaten" other countries with "obliteration". Well how would they feel if our enemies said do what we want or we're going to "obliterate" you. So yes, I'm for someone who is a good speaker and good negotiator.
That is all well and good, but....
I still don't agree. I hear "most Muslims don't agree with," but you never hear the Muslims themselves saying so. Why don't they? Why don't they write articles, get published, come out publically against extremism? Now I know that there are Muslims who are not prone to violence and yes, they abhor it...but a personal feeling means nothing if those who feel that way don't unite and make themselves known. Of course Muslim countries denounced the attack...what would YOU do if you thought you might come into the crosshairs of the US military? Who knows what they were saying to their own people. I seem to remember footage of your regular Muslim folks dancing in the streets over there and saying we got what we deserved. They were not members of AL Qaeda, just everyday Muslim citizens. So...sorry....I don't think this gentleman gets it and I don't think Obama gets it either.
There will always be fundamentalists, and I believe more Muslims than not are fundamentalists; just will not say so, and just a few of them can do great damage and frankly, I want a President in the White House that I think those people will have a grudging respect for; I want them to think he/she will train down misery on them if they attack us again. Because, frankly, that is all they understand, and for all Bush's failures (and he has many in my books, including spending like there was no tomorrow), I believe that is one thing he HAS done and the way he reacted to 9-11 is exactly what has kept them from attacking us like that again. They don't want American boots on the ground in anymore Muslim countries. Because Bush gets it. He knows who and what he is fighting.
Just as an aside....what makes you think Obama is in favor of free trade? His votes in Congress and many of his statements are in direct contradiction to that...? I have read up on it, and while he has made statements that he is "for" free trade, all his actions speak otherwise.
Bottom line...I don't trust him, I don't think he understands Muslim extremism, and I know he is way further to the left and has rampant socialist tendencies that I don't agree with...and if he is elected, look for taxes to go up no matter what he says, because to do everything he wants to do is going to cost a lot of money. And when he starts with the taxing the "rich" and people start to jump on that bandwagon...they need to look at the income thresholds for those "rich" and realize that it will hurt the small businesses who employ a great many people in this country. If he does that, look for more jobs and companies to go offshore. A major contributor to offshoring is companies trying to get out from under the huge tax burden Democratic congresses have put on them.
As a side note...violence associated with the Muslim religion is not new...their rampage across Europe killing Christians on the way to trying to take over Jerusalem...that was many hundreds of years ago, leading to the crusades. Muslim extremists (although they were all pretty extreme in those days) were about world domination then and they are about it now...they are just more clever in how they seek to bring it about.
And look at Sharia law...how much more violent can you get? Stonings, cutting off limbs, honor killings...sorry...I don't think they get it at all...just my opinion. If you put in Sharia law in this country we would have a gazillion stonings a day and a good portion of the populace would be limbless...if even alive. And there are American citizens (though Muslim) who have participated in and fully condoned honor killings...sooo I don't think it is wise to assume that free markets and capitalism will change minds and hearts. Nice thought...just not a realistic one, in my view. While there ARE those Muslims who are not extreme in how they interpret the Koran...I do not think they are in the majority. Nothing about the world today makes me come anywhere close to believing that.
Both of those men are good men....
I was impressed with Duncan Hunter during the primaries. I really have no idea where McCain is going to go. Another real interesting aspect of this race. I have to say Obama surprised me choosing Biden. Especially when they have Biden saying on tape he would be proud to run with McCain. Now he is going to have to turn around and attack McCain. Slight loss of credibility there. Oh well. Friendships often get thrown under the political bus...on both sides.
