The way I look at it, the Obamas will have more help taking care of the dog (they can be a lot of work!) and also, IMHO, the girls are old enough now to have one and learn responsibility.

If you brought in pics of your new grandchild, she'd tell you his ears were asymmetrical. Finally got 'MT-of-the-Month' because you typed the most lines? She'd say it was because you all all the easy dictators that month. Finally buy a new car? She'd insist that it rated lowest on the crash-tests. Just got a facelift, and finally back at work looking 20 years younger? She'd insist she could see the scars.
Pretty sad, huh? Those kinds of people have so little going for them in their lives, that they have to torpedo the happiness of all those around them. And unfortunately, this profession seems to draw that type like flies to road-kill.
Well, no killjoy rightwing biddy is going to spoil this day, and our exciting, YOUNG! new administration for me.
Am I going to wake up tomorrow morning with a better job? No. More money? Nope. But what I AM going to wake up to tomorrow is a President that I can finally be PROUD of again. And it's been far too long in coming.

You know it has to be pretty darned bad when virtually all you see on the left-wing blogs is searing criticism of Democratic congresscritters. And I have to say, I absolutely agree with them. I'm still partial to progressive values but let's face it, elected Democrats are worthless, and have been since 2000, if not long before.
I have to wonder if that's been part of the plan all along, and if there are not much larger forces than the RNC focused on literally destroying America, her political system, her people and her former glory. With Alito's confirmation it's a done deal. The right can yuk it up all it wants and assume a smugness off the scale - but they don't appear to be aware that it's their nation too that is being dismantled. What is their powerful, pushy, money-grubbing and quasi-criminal majority party without a strong minority to watchdog it?
There's only one answer, and it is bad news 99% of the American people.

The GOP claims McCain is getting 70% of the Republican vote. That is beyond scary (a nation of sheep). I will wait and see who Dr. Paul endorses, and go with the 30% remaining true conservatives to form our own party. The woman was Eleanor Roosevelt. To say she was nothing to look at was an understatement. Very homely looking but what she accomplished which made me think of her when others are talking about looks. Do looks matter- what about a person's soul and heart- does that not count for anything now?
My stepmom worked in Washington during WWII. She saw Eleanor Roosevelt several times. She told me about how Mrs. Roosevelt would board a pubic bus and say hello to the people sitting there, not pretentious at all. I remember her later when she was working at the United Nations as a delegate. She became one of the greatest women of the 20th Century. She was an humanitarian and civic leader (among other roles). She worked for the welfare of youth, black Americans, the poor, and women, at home and abroad. She persuaded her husband to create NYA which gave financial aid to students and young people. She worked closely with the NAACP. She visited the troops overseas during WWII. She was a leader in human right efforts. What she may have lacked in looks she certainly made up for it in her good deeds.

That lady have every right showing a flag in her office; the American flag is a symbol of this country, its freedoms, all it stands for. The lady from Africa obviously needs to go back to Africa and stay there. She has no patriotism to this country, just here to work like so many others, without an ounce of care for this country at all, except to make a buck.

As to Obama...look. I had concerns about him during the campaign. Those did not just disappear *poof* when he won the election. I still have concerns. I don't trust him. His first choice for his administration did not make any strides toward trust, in fact, made me even more concerned. I asked if the real Barack Obama would step up, and he has. Maybe the next choices will be better. Time will tell.

Obama supporters, I need your help
I am a conservative Republican, but am undecided in this election. My best friend is a liberal Democrat and she is hosting an Obama Party this Friday. I've been trying to become educated on where Obama stands on some of the issues and what his plans are once he becomes president, but I'm obviously looking in the wrong places. I have a very open mind and want to be part of the conversation at this party, but I want to know what's being talked about. Can anyone give me some reputable websites that will give me any of this information? It would be greatly appreciated!

Here is a quick look into 3 former Fannie Mae executives who have brought down Wall Street. Franklin Raines was a Chairman and Chief Executive Officer at Fannie Mae. Raines was forced to retire from his position with Fannie Mae when auditing discovered severe irregulaties in Fannie Mae's accounting activities. At the time of his departure The Wall Street Journal noted, ' Raines, who long defended the company's accounting despite mounting evidence that it wasn't proper, issued a statement late Tuesday conceding that 'mistakes were made' and saying he would assume responsibility as he had earlier promised. News reports indicate the company was under growing pressure from regulators to shake up its management in the wake of findings that the company's books ran afoul of generally accepted accounting principles for four years.' Fannie Mae had to reduce its surplus by $9 billion. Raines left with a ' golden parachute valued at $240 Million in benefits. The Government noted, 'The 101 charges reveal how the individuals improperly manipulated earnings to maximize their bonuses, while knowingly neglecting accounting systems and internal controls, misapplying over twenty accounting principles and misleading the regulator and the public. These charges were made in 2006. The Court ordered Raines to return $50 Million Dollars he received in bonuses based on the miss-stated Fannie Mae profits.
Tim Howard - Was the Chief Financial Officer of Fannie Mae. Howard 'was a strong internal proponent of using accounting strategies that would ensure a 'stable pattern of earnings' at Fannie. In everyday English - he was cooking the books. The Government Investigation determined that, 'Chief Financial Officer, Tim Howard, failed to provide adequate oversight to key control and reporting functions within Fannie Mae,'
On June 16, 2006, Rep. Richard Baker, R-La., asked the Justice Department to investigate his allegations that two former Fannie Mae executives lied to Congress in October 2004 when they denied manipulating the mortgage-finance giant's income statement to achieve management pay bonuses. Investigations by federal regulators and the company's board of directors since concluded that management did manipulate 1998 earnings to trigger bonuses.
Raines and Howard resigned under pressure in late 2004.
Howard's Golden Parachute was estimated at $20 Million!
Jim Johnson - A former executive at Lehman Brothers and who was later forced from his position as Fannie Mae CEO.
A look at the Office of Federal Housing Enterprise Oversight's May 2006 report on mismanagement and corruption inside Fannie Mae, and you'll see some interesting things about Johnson. Investigators found that Fannie Mae had hidden a substantial amount of Johnson's 1998 compensation from the public, reporting that it was between $6 million and $7 million when it fact it was $21 million.' Johnson is currently under investigation for taking illegal loans from
Countrywide while serving as CEO of Fannie Mae.

One side thinks they are better than the other; the self-righteous blathering about 'who is more of an American' calling people horrible names like 'oreo', 'half-breeds', 'low-lifes', etc - even stooping so low as to call people 'baby-killers'. You all seem to forget one thing: WE ARE ALL IN THIS TOGETHER, NO MATTER WHO IS ELECTED. And whatever happens, all of us will be affected and as much in the toilet this country has been in for the past eight years - NONE OF US IS BETTER THAN OUR FELLOW MAN. Period.

I don't normally post on this board, I stay over on the MT boards, but I have one thing to say from my heart: Please remember that you reap what you sow. All of the years of the Bush-bashing from the left...it was always "okay" to do that because Bush is an "imbecile" or whatever other hateful names he was called. You didn't agree with his policies, etc. So let's bash him. Forget that he is a human being with people who love him. I believe he did the best he could with what he had to work with in terms of faulty intelligence given to him and the unimaginable stress of being the Leader of the Free World.
Well, now the tables have turned. I, personally, do not intend to bash Obama until he does/does not do something I disagree with, but when the time comes that some people might have the gall to disagree with something Obama does and refer to him in a negative way by calling him names or otherwise, please remember how it was *okay* for the left to do it to Bush. Just remember that. The time will come when the hateful negativity comes back on you with a vengeance.
