You know what gets me?

Okay, if I use the wrong words, please put up with it and I will correct it as I can...
I read every day where you don't want to give a handout to the poor people of this country, and you don't want your wealth taken away to share with people... okay, I understand that.
Then WHY would you think it is okay to buy a person's mortgage that they freely took out on their own knowing they could not afford it and give it back to them at a better interest rate and a lower principle? I don't understand that??? Please explain it to me.
I understand that the country is in trouble, but I don't think that people that took on more than they could handle should be rewarded. Responsibly, I did not take on more than I could handle, but through a series of unfortunate events (losing my job and my husband being hurt in an accident and being out of work) I lost my home. Now is the government going to give me back my house? I happen to know that it is still sitting there empty...
Why is it okay to give to one group of people, but not to another?
