Hey - they gotta pay off the dead people
Those Dems - they're a laff riot a minute, aren't they?
Gotta question for gay rights people.
Okay...I've been reading a lot about states accepting same sex marriage. I personally am not in favor of it, but that is my personal opinion.  This is my question though.  If we all compromised and allowed civil unions between gay couples, would you be willing to leave the definition of marriage between a man and a woman?  I know that no one is going to be entirely happy with any outcome, but I was just curious if a compromise could be made on this subject.
I can't understand people
fighting against themselves either.  Reaganomics was the beginning of this disaster.  The trickle down just didn't trickle.
I don't understand you people!!!

I don't understand how if Obama fails to act you condemn him, then when he does act, you condemn him for that same act you were requiring earlier...

I am one of those that voted for Obama.  Do I think he is perfect?  No, definitely not... do I think he has made some bad decisions?  Yes, definitely so...

However, I still feel like he is doing a good job as President of the United States.  He walked into a boatload of crap and is having to deal with it one step at a time with every once in awhile another load being dumped in.  Why can't ya'll give him a chance?

I know he will make mistakes - what man has never made mistakes?  I know the problem is that his mistakes will have an effect on everybody in this country today and tomorrow and for many years to come, but he is trying!  Can you not give him a break sometime?

I understand that many people use it now...
but legalize it, and how many more will. I have never tried it-why? Because it is illegal. I know that I am not the only person who obeys laws. I do not believe that marijuana is not addictive, nor do many doctors. I doubt that tax revenue would increase with pot, just black market prices would be forced down to compete and people would grow their own. We do not need to agree--we rarely do.
Ya gotta understand the rules. We have to post on this board only. They can post on any board they

I understand completely....people can see the same situation in 2 different ways....
I am not trying to bash your opinion either...and I will just touch on this briefly and leave it alone. Wanting regime change in Iraq did not originate with George Bush. It originated during the Clinton administration:

Iraq repeatedly blocked UNSCOM from inspecting suspect sites.

Iraq repeatedly restricted UNSCOM's ability to obtain necessary evidence.

Iraq tried to stop an UNSCOM biological weapons team from videotaping a site and photocopying documents and prevented Iraqi personnel from answering UNSCOM's questions.

Iraq has failed to turn over virtually all documents requested by the inspectors.

US Forces:
There are 15 U.S. warships and 97 U.S. aircraft in the Persian Gulf region, including about 70 aboard the aircraft carrier USS Enterprise. More than 12,000 sailors and Marines are in the region.

U.S. sources said eight of the warships, equipped with cruise missiles, have been moved into the northern part of the Gulf, within easy striking distance of Baghdad. More troops and jets have been ordered to the region.

More than 300 cruise missiles are available for use against Iraq, and there are air-launched cruise missiles aboard 14 B-52 bombers on the British island of Diego Garcia, sources said.

Britain has 22 strike aircraft in the region.

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- From the Oval Office, President Clinton told the nation Wednesday evening why he ordered new military strikes against Iraq.

The president said Iraq's refusal to cooperate with U.N. weapons inspectors presented a threat to the entire world.

"Saddam (Hussein) must not be allowed to threaten his neighbors or the world with nuclear arms, poison gas or biological weapons," Clinton said.

Operation Desert Fox, a strong, sustained series of attacks, will be carried out over several days by U.S. and British forces, Clinton said.

"Earlier today I ordered America's armed forces to strike military and security targets in Iraq. They are joined by British forces," Clinton said.

"Their mission is to attack Iraq's nuclear, chemical and biological weapons programs and its military capacity to threaten its neighbors," said Clinton.

Clinton also stated that, while other countries also had weapons of mass destruction, Hussein is in a different category because he has used such weapons against his own people and against his neighbors.

'Without delay, diplomacy or warning'

The Iraqi leader was given a final warning six weeks ago, Clinton said, when Baghdad promised to cooperate with U.N. inspectors at the last minute just as U.S. warplanes were headed its way.

"Along with Prime Minister (Tony) Blair of Great Britain, I made it equally clear that if Saddam failed to cooperate fully we would be prepared to act without delay, diplomacy or warning," Clinton said.

The president said the report handed in Tuesday by Richard Butler, head of the United Nations Special Commission in charge of finding and destroying Iraqi weapons, was stark and sobering.

Iraq failed to cooperate with the inspectors and placed new restrictions on them, Clinton said. He said Iraqi officials also destroyed records and moved everything, even the furniture, out of suspected sites before inspectors were allowed in.

"Instead of inspectors disarming Saddam, Saddam has disarmed the inspectors," Clinton said.

"In halting our airstrikes in November, I gave Saddam a chance -- not a license. If we turn our backs on his defiance, the credibility of U.S. power as a check against Saddam will be destroyed," the president explained.

Strikes necessary to stunt weapons programs

Clinton said he made the decision to strike Wednesday with the unanimous agreement of his security advisors.

Timing was important, said the president, because without a strong inspection system in place, Iraq could rebuild its chemical, biological and nuclear programs in a matter of months, not years.

"If Saddam can cripple the weapons inspections system and get away with it, he would conclude the international community, led by the United States, has simply lost its will," said Clinton. "He would surmise that he has free rein to rebuild his arsenal of destruction."

Clinton also called Hussein a threat to his people and to the security of the world.

"The best way to end that threat once and for all is with a new Iraqi government -- a government ready to live in peace with its neighbors, a government that respects the rights of its people," Clinton said.

Such a change in Baghdad would take time and effort, Clinton said, adding that his administration would work with Iraqi opposition forces.

Clinton also addressed the ongoing impeachment crisis in the White House.

"Saddam Hussein and the other enemies of peace may have thought that the serious debate currently before the House of Representatives would distract Americans or weaken our resolve to face him down," he said.

"But once more, the United States has proven that although we are never eager to use force, when we must act in America's vital interests, we will do so."

There were limited bomb strikes at that time. And then we had not been attacked. George Bush did not invent the idea of regime change in Iraq. No, it did not turn into full fledged war at that time...but we had not lost 3000 of our citizens either.

Also, please check out the Iraq Liberation Act passed and endorsed enthusiastically by Democrats. And if you check closely...the same democrats who are decrying going into Iraq now were all for it then. When I look at the entirety of it...and I remember well Clinton saying from the oval office he was going to bomb Iraq and why he was going to do it...I agreed with him and I agreed with Bush. That is what I absolutely hate about politics...that partisan lockstep. If a Democrat President thinks we should bomb and/or invade Iraq, the Democrats are all behind him. Remember, the majority of Democrats voted this time to go in too. It was not George Bush alone. And the intelligence he used to make his decision is the same intelligence Bill Clinton had. I don't want to make argumentative. Just stating facts. And it is the totality of it that makes me say what I said about Bush. I do not believe for one minute that he went into Iraq knowing there was no WMD, any more than I think Clinton bombed Iraq knowing there was no reason to do so.

So far as I can see, John McCain did not say he was for more war. Even Obama has said that we cannot just pull out. So no matter who is elected, we are there for awhile. The say in Iraq for 100 years was misquoted and misrepresented by the Obama campaign and others...what he said was that there "could" not will be an American presence in Iraq for 100 years if necessary, like bases, advisors, etc. Not fighting soldiers. Like we had bases in Germany, bases in Korea, etc. Those wars had been over a long time and we still had bases there. He did not say we would be fighting in Iraq in a hundred years. That being said, if we are attacked again, he is certainly not afraid to fight. We can't afford a President who is not willing to fight. Clinton did not react to the first world trade center bombing, the khobar towers bombings, the embassy bombings, or the bombing of the USS Cole. Had he done so, we might not have had 9-11 and we would not have gone into Iraq. If Clinton had accepted bin Laden from the Sudan when they offered him...if, if, if. The war in Iraq was not the product of one man.

Again, not trying to be argumentative, but I do not understand how a huge group of people can blame one man for all the ills of this country and congress gets a pass. Bush by himself can't do very much. I mean I got pretty disgusted with Clinton at the end, and I didn't much care for a lot of the things that happened during his admin, but I did not blame him personally for it. That is not how the government works.

Yes, there are some things I did not like about the Bush admin and still don't like...but I don't demonize him and make him the poster chld for everything wrong with the country...I blame Congress. THey are the ones who can change things. And they haven't done diddly.
I understand that, if the people on the ground in hurricane country werwe not immediately alarmed...
why on earth would someone expect George Bush to be? He was relying on the local and state authorities to do their jobs. Kathleen Blanco knows that she messed up...which is why she is no longer in LA politics. All I am saying that everyone should share the blame...not one man.
That mob mentality............ sm
I don't think it was a single person responsible for this. Apparently, there was a whole mob of shoppers outside who broke the door off its hinges trying to get into the store and not one single person stopped to help him. There were other Walmart workers injured just trying to get to him to help him. I just can't imagine what these people were thinking....that that man's life was worth the 40 bucks they saved on an ipod or something.
More entitlement mentality
Why should we have to evacuate people who went there on their own free will? Lebanon is not Hawaii. It's one of the most unstable countries in the world. This is definitely one risk they should have planned ahead for, but no, they fully expected that when all heck broke loose that the U.S should be on their doorstep immediately to evacuate them. They are complaining that they were asked to pay $200 to be evacuated!!! They paid their way in, so why not pay their way out? When a cruise ship comes to pick them up for their 3 to 4 hour ride to Crete they can only complain that they waited to long, it was hot, there were flies, and that the menu for the 3-4 hour ride was not up to their standards. Oh, they are lounging on the deck in bathing suits, but they are suffering so baaaad, and it's their government's fault. Ingrates.

To address what you said about Bush's articulation challenge I will say this. Talk is cheap no matter how articulate or inarticulate you are. Actions speak louder than words. You can be eloquent all day long, but if you never put any action behind what you say your pretty words are best left un-uttered.
What is bootstrap mentality? nm
nm
your mentality very much scares me
x
Delusional mob mentality? sm
Seems the only example of that is with the liberals who cry foul when presented with the FACTS surrounding anything Obama. Do you realize how ignorant that makes you look to everyone except the other liberals? What's even more stupid is that you people ignored all the warning signs and elected him as POTUS anyway. Talk about insanity!!!!
Consider the mentality of those who put him in office
x
what is the deal with the mob mentality...
is this gang up on old men day? And I say this with the utmost respect because I, for one, really like old men! Do you people have so little to say to actually bolster you stance on issues that all you can do to feel better is pick on one particular poster? Well, here you go--pick on me, too, if it will make you feel better about yourselves. I can, as I am sure TechSupport can, take it.
that mentality only works if..
we actually are all in this together. it doesn't work too well if half of us are working and half of us are not. Right now in the US it is the working people supporting the ones who don't. don't get me wrong, I am totally in favor of helping anyone who can't but not one bit if favor of supporting those who won't. Nope, I am not in it together with those who won't.
neocons mentality..*frightening*
and we will leave you with your guns, delusions that Bush is doing the country and Americans good, your war, murder mentality and guarantee..at the rate this country is going, we will still be fighting terrorists 50 years from now and it is your man Bush we all can thank.terrorism is an ideology, it can never be eliminated, however, the person we should have eliminated is still free and Bush never even mentions him any more.  Give me love beads over war, war, war, war, kill, kill, kill, hate, hate, hate any day.  So sick of Bush and his idiotic mentality as most of the country is.  Cant wait till next election..Bush can go on down to Crawford and play with the cows in the manure where he cant hurt any one.
Sheep with flock mentality.

No. Your mentality got Obama into office.
People like you make me sick. You rant and rave but do nothing. All you do is create tempests in teapots and look where we are now? Superpower? Not any more. Why do you try to do something to make things better instead of complaining all the time. You remind me of my mother-in-law. Sad, very sad.
Completely juvenile. This is the mentality on here now though...
:-(
Delusional mob mentality cannot change facts.
how ignorant you make yourself look by subscribing to this nonsense? What's even more stupid is the fact that people are so full of hate for Obama that they are actually willing to go for broke having judges tell them the same thing over and over and over and over and over again. Insane.
I no more understand it than I understand the extremely poor taste and blasphemous sm

I've been asked "What is bootstrap mentality?"
I would appreciate it if the answers to this question from all perspectives be expressed in a respectful, bash-free manner.

Mob mentality and mass hysteria of Biblical proportions.
for a change. Tell us what we need to hear. McCain's economic plan and "shared party philosophy" is different from Bush how?
For those whose brains can only handle sound byte mentality
For the rest of us, we need a little substance and certainly cannot take wild accusations with no verifiable or credible source in sight and pointless juvenile name calling too seriously on any level whatsoever.
Well, I gotta see this. sm
I've been giving the TV a serious rest lately, just plain uninterested in the news lately. I'll check this out if I can catch it.

Did these things bother you AT LEAST AS MUCH as Chicago politics, to which so far Obama has not been directly or indirectly linked in any definitive way.

1) Torture. I think a little detail is in order here to help illustrate my point.
Forcing prisoners to crawl around on the floor while US soldiers rode them like donkeys.
Allowing poisonous snakes to inflict fatal bites on prisoners. In other words, premeditated murder in cold blood.
Stonings.
Shooting prisoners for minor misbehavior
Use of attack dogs.
Sexual abuse of a 16-year-old girl by two interrogators.
Sexual abuse of a 16-year-old son of an Iraqi general who was driven through the cold after he had been showered and who was smeared with mud in order to get his father to talk.
Forcing Moslem women to expose their breasts.
Forcing naked prisoners to have sex with each other.
Guards performing sodomy on boys while audio and video of the act was taped.
Urinating on detainees.
Stripping prisoners and threatening to rape them and their wives.
Blasphemy against Allah. Forcing Moslem prisoners to pray to Jesus.
Smearing feces on prisoners and forcing them to walk a straight line while their ankles were bound.
Severely beating prisoners while they were hooded and bound.
Videotaping and photographing male and female detainees, many times after arranging them in sexually explicit positions, other times forcing them to masturbate.
Keeping prisoners nakes for several days at a time.
Forcing male detainees to wear women's underwear, the ultimate humiliation to Moslem detainees.
Jumping up and down on a pile of naked detainees.
Placing a naked detainee on a MRE Box, with a sandbag on his head, and attaching wires to his fingers, toes, and penis to simulate electric torture.
Placing a dog chain around a prisoner's neck and posing him with a female officer.
Male guard raping female detainee.
Photographing smiling MP guards next to bodies of dead detainees.
Pouring phosphoric liquid on detainees.
Pouring cold water on naked detainees.
Beating detainess with a broom handle and a chair.
Threatening to rape.

You have a lot of nerve sending Emma T to the faith board after the countless times the Right-wing fringers abused this board for days and days at a time with their self-righteous indignations, all in the name of God and religion, when all she is tryig to do is express a little JOY, for God's sake.
Gotta wonder....

....what happens if millions of us default on our mortgates?  Will the lenders foreclose on all of us?  Foreclosure is a lengthy and expensive process, potentially ending in an eviction of you refuse to go quietly.  What  will they then do with all the houses and nobody to buy them?  We all know how quickly vacant buildings deteriorate. Will we have suburban ghost towns?

Same with car payments.  If we have mass defaults on car loans, how with the lenders handle all the repo's that will generate?  What will they do with millions of repossessed cars?

What happens if millions of us can't pay our taxes?  Doesn't have to be a formal tax strike.  A lot of us who are ICs don't have taxes withheld.  What if the self-employed cannot afford to send the quarterly payments?  How many audits and prosecutions can the IRS handle?  What  will they do with those who are convicted of tax evasion?  Will they have to let thousands of murderers and rapists out of the overcrowded prisons in order to put us in, to send a message?  Will they be fighting with the banks over who gets first dibs on any assets left over after the house, the car and the big-screen TV are taken?

Chris Matthews... gotta love him.
I actually know him. He's like that in real life, I promise you. I didn't see this particular interview, so I can't comment on it directly. But, when Chris thinks someone is trying to evade a question, he keeps at it. True, sometimes the poor interviewee is actually trying to answer the question but can't get a word in edgewise. We have the same problem when we're with him!

He's a commentator, not a journalist. There's a certain amount of entertainment factor to his show, and MSNBC knows it. Viewers either love him or hate him, agree with him or violently disagree with him. As long as he can pull in ratings, he'll be there. If he doesn't appeal, it's easy enough to just switch him off. There are plenty of times I just smile and shake my head, "Oh, Chris is at it again!" And just click him right off.
In the mainstream media? You gotta be kidding....
