No more than I mind paying for yours.

SO you don't mind paying more taxes under
??
I wouldn't mind making 250K and paying
25% in taxes....
Why should we pay your mortgage?
Why on earth should the people who were smart enough not to jump on the bandwagon and buy a bigger house than they could afford give a 30% mortgage decrease to the people who went hog wild and spent above their means? I am not a homeowner, by choice, and I am totally against giving anyone a decrease on a mortgage that they agreed upon when they purchased their home. You make a mistake, you pay the consequences!
Mortgage
Somebody who cannot afford to buy a house should not buy a house, bedasue they do not want to lose out on the rent money.
There are people out there who buy a house, rent it out and expect the tenants to pay the mortgage. If something goes wrong, who pays the mortgage then?
Wrong speculations!
about that fixing your mortgage --
are they going to go back and fix everybody's mortgage that has already had their house foreclosed?
DH and I should get our mortgage fixed....
we have no debt but our home, have never missed a payment or been late, pay a few hundred dollars extra every month towards the principal, have never taken out a HELOC or used our equity (quite a bit) for anything and have a fantastic credit score. We should have our rate lowered below the 5% it is now for doing a great job. But no, we'll give a break to those who bought too much house, had to compete with the Jones' and who took out foolish loans to begin with.
The Mortgage Failure......

Check out the mortgage failures.
Tell me which failed more, prime or subprime
Tell me what is the rate of failures under the CRA or even Bush's ADDI (which i attack alll the time)
Once again, REALITY AND THE DATA doesn't fit ya'lls claims.

Basically what happened was.. we reformed bankruptcy laws.. so that people who ran into dire straights could not restructure.

We packaged the loans into commodity derivatives. These are sorta mirror bets on the loans. Sorta..as the same loan will be sold many times in many derivative packages.. that's why the housing derivatives are worth more than all the real estate in the US. Derivatives are actually not that bad.. when a market is stable and only has to deal with natural forces. The housing market was bubbled.. partially due to low interest rates that encouraged everyone to buy, even the rich, and partially due to the CRA and the ADDI.. which did add customers to the market (helping form the bubble was the extent the CRA and the ADDI had in this mess)

All it took was a few failures to pop the bubble..and make real estate prices drop,. and mind you, it was mainly prime loans (READ not loans given to poor people and not loans under the CRA) that failed. The derivative market.,.which like I said, is really mirrors of the same loans.. cause the defaults to explode with ten times the ferocity, because one loan could effect the price of dozens of derivatives.

Really the poor and even irresponsible people .. simply did not have the economic ability to cause this mess. Pool all their money together and waste it on hookers.. it would have zero effect without help from the rich elites and their magnifying packaged derivatives.

THE CRA and ADDI both had stricter requirements than loans you got from normal banks.. both required income data.. where many prime loans did not.. they also greatly limited you on how much home you could purchase..whereas private banks did not care if you tried to buy something you could not afford.
Don't believe me?.. Look in the phone book.. call your own housing authority - you can get a loan for 106% the purchase price of a home even today.. if you're poor enough.

Ask to hear the red tape and hoops you must go through.. Heck, it is probably easier to just get a real job and earn real money than go through the FHA.

I don't think we should bail out anyone's mortgage.
Anyone who took out a mortgage and signed a contract to repay the loan and needs to do so. I don't care if they are illegal aliens, legal aliens, space aliens, or United States citizens.
That's how the mortgage cookie crumbles!
I am still against bailing out homeowners only!
the whole mortgage thing upsets me...sm
I have a subprime mortage and have had for over 3-1/2 years, but I make my payments on time every month. I can't even get a refinance to go through with almost $40,000 in equity in the house and only needing a loan for $85,500, as I put down a big down payment when I bought the house, but if I had an ARM or was in foreclosure there are programs that would put me in a new mortgage. So, here I am trying to take care of my bills, be a productive citizen, and I get no help. Makes lots of sense don't it.
McCain's mortgage plan
Did anybody understand when McCain brought up plan to buy bad mortgages and renegotiate, etc. Would that be with the $700 billion we are already shelling out or would this be an additional $300 Billion the taxpayers have to pay. If I can get my mortgage renegotiated with the government, maybe I'll just stop paying my mortgage and get something out of this after all!
Citi is my mortgage holder too. sm
They are just downright nasty when you call, can never post things on time, and then have the nerve to call and ask me when I am going to send my check when I have my bank statement in front of me saying they processed the check 3 days before they called me.

I am with you...LET THEM ALL TANK. Why should I give ANYBODY more of my hard earned money. And that includes Obama and his "redistribution of the wealth" schtick.
Disagree. Mortgage lenders FM/FM
and sub-prime mortgages did it, along with all the money certain senate leaders got for sticking up for for FM/FM. It's called GREED.
Dear Crabby, about the mortgage
Yes, American people were also greedy, but there were predatory lenders who got higher commissions for giving out those certain types of ARM mortgages. Do you know what an ARM is? Even if people qualified for conventional mortgages, the mortgage brokers didn't offer them because there was more money in it commission-wise for them if they brokered the ARM loans. We can thank Bush and the repubs because they did not want to regulate any of this.
You really should educate yourself.
Fugget about Uncle Tom's Cabin. Is that your claim to fame? aww shucks.

I have my mortgage throught CitiCorp.....
I wonder if I will see any of that largesse....NOT. Guess you have to be on the letter head. Oh well....LOL
No need to wonder...current mortgage bank crisis...
brought to you courtesy of greedy democrats on Congress and greedy Democrats at the top of Fannie Mae. The handwriting is on the wall. This one's on you. McCain saw it coming in 2005 and the dems shut him down. Well, we are reaping what they sowed. To quote Toby Keith...how do you like them now?
Rush just said the same thing....give everyone with a mortgage...sm
something like $75,000 to pay down their mortgage.

Do you agree with him also?
Yes, slimy mortgage companies who have no oversight....they don't ask anything
just selling 'em as fast they could and packed them all up into nice little derivatives to drive up the bubble and make fast money - at our expense.
If the current mortgage securities plan prevails,
come out of it all smelling like a rose. They are proposing to refinance the mortgages based on inflated appraised values that existed BEFORE the mortgage crisis, not the current lower values. In this way, the homeowners will still end up owing more on their mortgages than their homes are actually worth....they will just be paying for it for a longer term with more accumulated interest on the loan. Those terms are the ones we need to keep our eyes on and see how it plays out, but it looks to me like it is not going to make it into the next session of Congress.
BT, I am sooo with you, we also finally paid the mortgage, the cars are ours....sm
and no more credit, bad debts and loans killed the economy and Wall Street. Just providing for our 3 kids and making ends meet is the daily challenge, but we have each other and a good extended family, I so hope that the good thing that comes out of this crisis is LESS MATERIALISM in this country, back to simpler living and being happy with less!
I'd be happy if they just reduced everybody's mortgage rate to a fixed 3%. sm
Then everyone is still responsible for the debt they took on, yet they're still getting a break. It would free up a couple hundred bucks a month for me, which I could then use elsewhere to stimulate the economy. Fewer foreclosures, banks are still getting their money.
Yeah, but wouldn't it be great if they paid your mortgage?
Apparently, you have no problem with charity if it begins at "home."
Wrong. Democrats are responsible for the mortgage meltdown, not Bush....
McCain tried to tell them in 2005...Dems blocked the regulation he begged for for Fannie/Freddie. But the Dems were too deep in the pockets...Franklin Raines, Jamie Gorelick, James Johnson, Timothy Howard...all democrats, all walked away from fannie Mae with golden parachutes of millions...and we are left holding the bag. Fannie contributed more to Chris Dodd, Democratic head of Banking and COmmerce committe than any other senator in the past 20 years...followed closely by Barack Obama, who has only been IN the senate for 2 years...you do the math and follow the money. Democrats largely responsible for this. ANd you want to put one in the white house. Who wants to raise taxes in this financial crisis. What part of collapse of the economy don't you...and Mr. Obama...understand?
McCain has fogotten the stock market crash, mortgage/credit crisis,
unemployment rates, job losses, stagnant wages, rising prices in gas, food, health care, etc, etc, etc.
According to that., I would also be paying...
less, but the difference is minimal. There are so many disclaimers on the site I don't know if I believe it anyway...however, what you have to take into consideration along with this, is all the programs he is proposing to the billions of dollars. Look at our economy now. I don't think he can deliver on any of it without sending us into another financial crisis. Either of them actually. So what I am looking at is who can do the best with what he is going to be faced with. I believe McCain and his reforming agenda, his history (he saw this fannie/freddie debacle coming years ago and the Dems pooh-poohed him)...that is the experience and track record I want to see.

why would we be paying for it?
I am not talking about a low income clinic, I am talking about a regular gynecology office. When I took my daughter in for visits, I did not ask the taxpayers to pay for it. I paid my copay and filed it on my insurance -

I don't think we pay for everybody's medical care - that would be socialism, remember?
Still not illegal
I agree with Lila that I believe abortion is immoral but it's not illegal.  Legality is a tangible thing and not an opinion.
but just because you think it should be illegal
doesn't mean that it IS illegal. U.S. law does not hinge on whether you think something should be illegal, although you certainly affect that outcome by your vote.

Democrat, relativism will not work here. Your opinion on what reality should be does not make that reality so. I imagine a world where no unborn babies are killed, but I realize that it may never happen AND I acknowledge at this very moment that abortion is legal whether I like the fact or not.
and this is illegal?
x
And these will be some of the illegal
big O elected, should it happen.
then that is illegal -
grant money does not have to be counted as income, but you cannot turn around and count tuition as an expense if you received the grant money.

It adds up though with just the EIC to a lot of money without adding in that other stuff.

It really makes me sick! I believe in having programs to help people with childcare, food expenses, housing expense, etc., but I don't believe in just handing money to someone because they have the misfortune of making less money.

It is not fair and it has been abused too much!
THAT's what you got out of this...... not the law the illegal
nm
How about paying for good
So much for exporting Democracy.

U.S. paid for Iraqi praise, paper says

BY LOLITA C. BALDOR
ASSOCIATED PRESS

December 1, 2005

WASHINGTON -- The U.S. military offered a mixed message Wednesday about whether it embraced one of its programs that reportedly paid a consulting firm and Iraqi newspapers to plant favorable stories about the war and the rebuilding effort.

Lt. Col. Barry Johnson, a military spokesman in Iraq, said the program is an important part of countering misinformation in the news by insurgents. A spokesman for Defense Secretary Donald H. Rumsfeld, however, called a report detailing the program troubling if true and said he was looking into the matter.

This is a military program initiated with the Multi-National Force to help get factual information about ongoing operations into Iraqi news, Johnson said in an e-mail.

Details about the program were first reported Wednesday by the Los Angeles Times. It was the second time this year that Pentagon programs have come under scrutiny for reported payments made to journalists for favorable press.

Two other federal agencies have been investigated in the past year for similar activities, leading Congress' Government Accountability Office to condemn one -- the Education Department -- for engaging in illegal covert propaganda.

Military officials who spoke to the Times on condition of anonymity said the Information Operations Task Force, based in Baghdad, bought an Iraqi newspaper and took over a radio station to put out pro-U.S. messages. Neither outlet was named out of fear that they would be targeted by insurgents, the newspaper said.

The stories in Iraqi newspapers often praise the efforts of U.S. and Iraqi troops, denounce terrorism and promote Iraq reconstruction efforts.

The Times quoted unnamed officials as saying some of the stories in Iraqi newspapers were written by U.S. troops and though basically factual, they sometimes give readers a slanted view of what is happening.

Defense Department officials didn't deny the report.

Rumsfeld spokesman Bryan Whitman said, so this article raises some question as to whether or not some of the practices that are described in there are consistent with the principles of this department.

The Pentagon hired the Lincoln Group, a Washington-based firm that translates the stories into Arabic and places them in Baghdad newspapers, the newspaper said. Lincoln's staff or subcontractors in Iraq occasionally pose as freelance reporters or advertising executives when they hand stories to Iraqi news outlets, it said.

Laurie Adler, a spokeswoman for the Lincoln Group, said Wednesday she couldn't comment on the contract because it is with the U.S. government.

If you live on the GC, you were paying about
nm
My dear, you will not be paying any
more taxes than they paid in the 1990s, and I can't feel sorry for you. 250K is a lot of money.  Our country is under seige by big business, and you feel sorry for yourself that you might have to pay your fair share.  My DH and I work our butts off for 60K a year, and we pay 20% to 25% in taxes, but we don't whine about it.  However, it would be nice to get a break.
Paying for it is a problem
I already have almost $20,000 in student loans and I'm still a year or two away from a bachelor's. And I am attending a little podunk school in South Georgia! But through the pell grant I was able to take a year and get my MT certification through the community college, and while it wasn't Andrews or MTech, I still received a good education and I make a decent living for a newbie who is still taking classes. There are a lot of grants and what not out there that you can use to take classes for free if you can keep up the grades. And it may be something the candidates need to look into. Maybe instead of just handing out checks to be used however, they can put them towards paying for education for people who can't afford it.

You don't have to have a bachelor's to make a decent living. You can go to school to be an auto mechanic, a paralegal, a respiratory therapist, etc. Most of these only take a year or two, and they will give you a lot more money than being on welfare. Plus, there are many online accredited schools now that take financial aid that parents can use if they can't physically go to class because of kids, etc.

90% of the time, it is the lack of will on the persons part that keeps them where they are. Just giving them more money is an incentive to stay down. That is why the welfare system is so horrible. There needs to be case workers who are working with these people and helping them get off of welfare. If they are on welfare and driving a BMW and can afford cable, internet, etc, then there is a problem. Something is fishy about that.

I know there are people who legitimately need help, and they deserve it. But for the most part, people are just to lazy, or don't care, and they just stay right where they are, never trying to better themselves. NO ONE should have to take care of them.
No, was just stating that we are still paying them...
its not like they are not getting an income while they are campaigning.

The point was that he could share his own wealth if he wanted to without being forced to by the government...lead by example, before he forces the rest of us to join in whether we want to or not.

what are you talking about? Are you saying paying
taxes is stealing? Don't get your post.

With all the not paying of taxes going on...
I think maybe an audit of all politicians should be undertaken?  LOL!  Sheesh....then again....I'd hate to see actually how many of them are screwing us even more by not paying taxes.  Yeeks!!!
My point was that they are not paying for anything...
I quit smoking to save money and take offense to paying for someone else to continue.
We are literally paying for their
countries defense.  We are ultimately paying for our own self destruction.  China doesn't like us.  They have been civil because the US has controlled the seas for so long and we had an awesome military and great defense.  Now Obama is wanting to cut back on our countries defense and sit down and talk with countries while China gets more of our money to go towards its own defense.  If they take control of the seas and have a greater military force than we do.....do you honestly think they will still play nice?  He!!s no they won't.
In my county, we have been paying

what I call the "right to breathe" tax. Just because we are living, we are taxed for it. It's only $252 a year but only 2 years ago, it was only $10 a year.

The stimulus also isn't helping our area. The little bit of money that came to this county is going for the same things (landscaping, etc.) that Hannity listed. Yet, our school district needs a new roof and more classrooms, so they are raising our taxes another 3.1 mils. We already are the highest taxed district in the county. A $100,000 home pays $1500 in property taxes...at least that was last year. The property taxes go up every year.

have you been paying attention
to the differences between what he said and what he does on other issues. things like (Paraphrased) "I don't want to be in the business of running car companies." ".....won't see any new taxes of any kind." "taxing health care benefits would be wrong." I think when you say when thing and do another that is a lie and it is manipulative.
You really must not have been paying attention
Other than a very brief period about 8-1/2 years ago, the divide in the country has been growing larger for about the last 10 years...surely you did not think we had national unity back in the Clinton years, did you? How about the 8 years of Bush the Younger? Frankly, other than a few of the more vociferous 'radical right' pundits, the country is not doing too bad. The moderates and independents have not chimed in yet as they realize that it's going to take longer than 150 days to clean up the mess left when the keys were handed to the POTUS. So far, the only people truly divided are the extremes, and, frankly, I tend to be happier when I'm catered to in the middle since we're so often forgotten.
So you are okay with paying for his affair?....(sm)
With all the whining you guys do about where your tax dollars go, I would think you might be a little more concerned.  I guess not though because that was a stand-up, God fearing republican.....I guess that makes it okay.
I don't know of any illegal immoral war
This war was approved by our own elected officials in the house and senate. I won't even start on the immoral part, because you really know that's bunk too.
The fact is the war is not illegal
It went through all appropriate channels, and we have NEVER agreed with the U.N. to approve all military actions through them. We do have agreements, but we have NEVER given the U.N. the authority to tell us whether we will go to war or not. The congress has ultimate authority to approvate any military action we pursue, period. They approved it, so it's completely legal.
That's how W got elected! U mean that was illegal! Huh!
Can't imagine the pubs doing anything illegal.,,,,,,,
Coz that is illegal under campaign

finance law.  Maybe McCain can allow homeless to stay in one of his 11 homes when he and Cindy are out flying in their personal jet?

not illegal, but definitely unethical
