Michelle Obama is a career woman herself. Between her and Obama....they make like 1 million bucks a year. That isn't all his income....that is hers as well. She spends time campaigning and traveling to give speeches. You say SP shouldn't be VP because she has young children. Here Obama is with young children and nothing is said. We assume Michelle is with them 24/7.....did Michelle personally call you and tell you that?? I am just saying that this whole argument about not liking SP because she should stay home with her children is just as relevent to argue when it comes to B. Hussein Obama and Michelle Obama and their children.

the people in the path of Ike, I AM in the path of Ike myself. I have small children and animals to worry about and there is no one else but me. You cannot understand what it is like to know that evacuation orders are being called, some voluntary, others mandatory, that the path of the storm changes every 3 or 4 hours and you have to make decisions about whether or not to stay or leave. You either stock up on nonperishibles which go flying off the shelves within hours, board up and hunker down or you board up and get the heck out of Dodge.
All day yesterday and last night, the weather channel was announcing that some mandatory evacs had been called, but NOBODY, including local media outlets, was actually saying which ones they were. My comments were more or less about the lack of media coverage but I am also not apologetic about feeling some resentment toward the herd mentality and worship of one single SKIRT, a word which I intentionally chose because as far as I am concerned, up against 5 million people running for their lives and MY OWN CHILDREN, her comings and goings and all the smut politics that has been surrounding the nonstop media blitz was trivial and insignificant. If it were your home, your car, your chldren and your life, you would get that. What is even more disturbing is the fact that some of you do not even seem to have the capacity to take a single moment out of all this juvenile rhetoric and tit-for-tat outrage to stop and just simply try to put yourselves into somebody elses' shoes. Next to my children, SP is a pipsqueak, a skirt....a NOBODY. Wee needed some HELP and we couldn't get it because of all this stupid nonsense. Don't you get that?

While this legislation is targeted at abortion, it doesn't actually say abortion. It says "procedures." Given it's broad language it can be translated into any type of procedure.
But lets take this scenario into consideration. Girl gets pregnant and wants to have the baby. Girl's health is at risk if she has the baby. Doctor does not believe in abortion at all, so does not have to give that patient the option of abortion. Get the picture yet? It's not all about abortion. It's about limiting health care in general.

Considering we have no opposition to alcohol in this country (other than huge taxes on it), why are we so concerned about legalizing marijuana. Either can impair you, driving or otherwise. When we had prohibition, alcohol was still around and there were those that made a killing smuggling that stuff in and selling it. If marijuana were legalized, there wouldn't be a huge black market for it and all the criminal activity it encourages (smuggling)from across the border would go down. We empower the druglords with all this.
Marijuana has shown to have great results for medicinal uses, yet our govt still wants to punish those that use it legitimately. How ludicrous is that? I don't know of anyone with an illness who actually has benefitted from alcohol, other than to just get drunk.
Sure, if legalized, it would be used just like alcohol, as a recreational substance, but it could also be utilized by those with real illnesses that could really benefit from it.

Actually, marriage was originally a prearranged affair based on economics and had nothing to do with love or anything sacred. The point in the parody of the White House *Department of Faith* is that religious extremists fail at their *sacred* marriages (and many other things), yet they critize homosexuals for wanting the equal sacred AND legal protections they enjoy. The hypocrisy is that religious fanatics don't obey their own commandments and teachings of the bible (just like my right-wing reactionary cousin) and yet are ready to condemn everyone else.
Further, your comment about homosexuals dying out because they don't procreate is just plain bizarre. Humans are animals as well and have the same basic instincts (for better and worse) so that some species mate for life as heterosexuals, others are promiscuous, AND some chimps have been studies to be sexual with members of the same gender. Evolution is vast and far-reaching. Given the overpopulation of our planet, I don't think this is something we need to worry about. You almost prove Darwin's theory....do you think homosexuals really *choose* to be homosexual? Why in the world would they want to subject themselves to the homophobia and hatred? Homosexuality was even *gasp* celebrated in ancient Greece.

Being pro-choice doesn't mean pro-abortion. You have chosen to speak out and act against abortion because you believe it to be against God's will. Is that ideology so different than other actions undertaken because they felt it was God's will? I don't think I need to list them for you. Most of the horrendous actions against mankind has been at the hands of other men in the name of religion. To me, this is no different.
In so doing, you are taking part in subjugation which is against what the constitution stands for. Correct? Keep it out of the government and keep out of the courts. In needs to be kept at a social level. Educate women against it. Give the women the love and support they need to make the right choice, but you cannot and should not make it for them.

I don't care what happened back in June, July or whenever. You just confirmed what I had said in my post and it sounds like you want some "pay back" for whatever you think you want it for. Who knows, and I don't care. My point I was making was I'd like to see positive posts. I'd like to see true discussions about the candidate you favor and why you favor them or don't favor them (and facts to back up your approval or disapproval). Over the past week I've seen hateful posts not only to Sam but to others who don't agree (whether it's for Obama or McCain). All I'm asking is the board to go back to what it was originally meant for...not a "fight club".

If they have done this with other presidents, fine. If Obama is the first, it just goes to show the love affair the media, including CNN, has with Obama and the bias they report in his favor. That was my point and I was trying to be nice in inquiring about whether or not they had done this type of thing with previous presidents, but since you have jumped on me for my post....I'm not going to be nice any more. The reason people are scrutinizing everything Obama does is because our country is in deep deep doo doo.....if you haven't noticed......and yes this started before Obama's administration but now that he is the big cheese on campus.....it is his time to be observed and if I don't feel that what he is doing is best for our economy and our country, I have a right to say something and express my concerns. Barack Obama is just a man. As for CNN celebrating Obama's 100 days as president....I'm sure they will make him once again look like he does no wrong and he is to be worshiped. Therefore, I will not be watching it. I had enough of the sickening adoration of him during the inaguration. I am proud that our country has looked past the prejudice of skin to elect the first African American president, but that doesn't mean he shouldn't be criticized and questioned just like every other president that has ever been in office. This is our country and we have a right to question what he does if we disagree with him. I don't have a problem with an African American as president.....I just don't think Barack Obama was the right guy for the job.

The supreme court has not ordered him to produce the original; they are simply reviewing the lower court's ruling regarding Berg bringing the suit in the first place. There is no order to produce the document. This is simply a measure that Berg and the other attorneys requesting the writ are now hoping will bring pressure on the electors to force them to demand the document be presented. But at this point there is no order to produce.

I have been on this board arguing over and over why McCain is the better choice. I used to support Obama until a few weeks ago after he beat out Hillary and then all this stuff about his life and the people he associates with (forget Rev. Wright- I could care less about that little dweeb), but his affiliations with the worst of the worst, his voting record, his lies about how he will not tax us, yet has consistently voted to raise taxes on who? The middle income (around $42,000 - if you would call that middle income anymore). His not cutting back on any of the programs he wants to fund. The list goes on and on and on about what I don't like about Obama.
As for McCain - I think he's a decent guy. I think he's way more decent than many of the politicians in Washington. I think he has always been on the side of the people and has shown that by consistently arguing against both dems and pubs if it doesn't benefit the people. I strongly supported the ticket mainly because of Palin. She is certainly one of the most qualified out of the other 3. She has consistently balanced the budget as governer, cut back pork filled bills, stopped wasteful spending, and has done nothing but good things for the people of her state and I believe that will carry over if the republicans win.
I was so expecting a really good debate and believed Gov. Palin helped him tremendously with her outstanding debate outcome, so was expecting nothing but good with McCain. There were so many issues people were talking about with what McCain would need to do to win the debate. I didn't see any of it last night and left me wondering, who does he meet with before debates and speeches and does he listent to any of them. To me his performance last night was so bad shuffling around the stage. I was sitting here typing and heard loud and clear McCain say "that one" not only saying it, but the tone of his voice just hit a raw nerve with me. DH and I just looked at each other and shook our heads. As I stated earlier I was very disappointed as I have been on this board arguing over and over and over for McCain and against Obama. But I don't know what was worse. His saying "that one" or him overusing "my friends". Why hasn't anyone told him to knock it off. He uses it in almost every single sentance he says. Like I say, I got disgusted and turned off the debate. Right now I don't care anymore who wins the election. I'm voting for the constitutional party, if I do even vote at all.

I could not care less what a person's faith is if he/she has the experience necessary, has above-average intelligence, a working knowledge of our own government, its history on the tip of his/her tongue, is quick on his/her feet and appears to be a qualified person, a person who is extremely well versed in the complexities that exist outside our own borders, someone who eats, sleeps, breathes history, politics, public service, someone who is a diplomat, and someone who can inspire us all to do better, to be better. But the tabloid stuff has already started and a lot of it has to do with Mormonism. I don't think a Morman has ever run for president, so this is apt to be a huge issue. Whether or not he can do the job will be secondary, maybe tertiary.

Why do you not accept that, and find fault that he has not actually attended a funeral? Why do you discount that his presence would turn a funeral into a media circus? No family who had lost someone would want that...whether than be an Iraqi soldier or Jamey Bishop killed at V Tech. This is all about Bush and your hatred of him and of this administration. So, it was okay for them to be killed by gas, or killed in torture chambers, and your sensibilities were not offendeed; however, now that they are being killed by their own by car bombs and the like, that is somehow horrible because the US is there? Either you are horrified at civilian deaths or you are not. Your justification, and the justification of the man in the article makes no sense to me. It is the religion of enjoining the good and forbidding the evil with the hand, tongue and heart. It is the religion of Jihad in the way of Allah so that Allah's Word and religion reign Supreme. And it is the religion of unity and agreement on the obedience to Allah, and total equality between all people, without regarding their colour, sex, or language.
(b) It is the religion whose book - the Quran - will remained preserved and unchanged, after the other Divine books and messages have been changed. The Quran is the miracle until the Day of Judgment. Allah has challenged anyone to bring a book like the Quran or even ten verses like it.
(2) The second thing we call you to, is to stop your oppression, lies, immorality and debauchery that has spread among you.
(a) We call you to be a people of manners, principles, honour, and purity; to reject the immoral acts of fornication, homosexuality, intoxicants, gambling's, and trading with interest.
We call you to all of this that you may be freed from that which you have become caught up in; that you may be freed from the deceptive lies that you are a great nation, that your leaders spread amongst you to conceal from you the despicable state to which you have reached.
(b) It is saddening to tell you that you are the worst civilization witnessed by the history of mankind:
She is right, they don't like, in fact they hate, everything about this country. They hate it because we don't have Sharia law. The only way they will stop trying to kill us is if we kill enough of them first, or convert to Islam and fall under Sharia law.

and I am an independent, not a Republican. First of all, he questioned her like she is running for President. She isn't. I would like Bill Clinton to have had this kind of questioning when he first ran for President having only been a governor. He would have done no better than she has, but the left would have sung his praises. Such is politics.
Politics aside, she did well. She avoided the traps he laid, and there were many.
As to avoiding answering questions and only hitting the talking points...did you watch the Obama-O'Reilly interview? Danced all around subjects and would not commit to anything. I don't hear any on the left complaining that he tried to evade questions and threw out talking points.
Keeping the money from the bridge to nowhere...states do that every day. Lobbyists for Alaska...earmarks. Joe Biden's son was a professional lobbyist until yesterday and he and dad did a great many deals while Dad has been in Congress (I guess they finally decided they really could not dump on lobbyists when they had them in the family). Obama has worked with lobbyists as well, has some on his advisory staff. And as far as earmarks...he got elected, Michelle Obama's hospital doubled her salary, and Obama earmarked a million plus for them. Who benefitted from that? Fact is, all politicians have done that. What you don't say here is what Palin explained very well...the earmarks they seek to stop are the crooked under the table ones, attaching huge earmarks to bills to get them passed that would not otherwise pass. The earmarks that were asked for by Alaska were by the Fish and Game Commission in Alaska. It is perfectly fine for states to request funds from Washington. Some get them, some don't. But the practice of adding "pork" to a bill just to get it passed is the WRONG practice and that is the one they seek to stop. She was very succint in explaining that. Guess you missed that part of the interview.
As far as abuse of power in troopergate...maybe we should wait for the results? And I STILL say, any "trooper" who tasered an 11-year-old for ANY reason SHOULD be fired.
There is nothing wrong with having the ceremony for sending off those troops on 9/11 to commemorate the day. I do not believe she did it for publicity. It is a very meaningful date for many of the soliders who are being deployed. I think that is a cheap shot at them as well as her, implying she does not care about them (one of whom is her son) and just wanted publicity. I think she has PLENTY of publicity without that.
As as for disparaging things said about someone in the primary season...most of the other democrats in the primary focused on Obama's inexperience. Hillary did. His now running mate did...if I recall, said "The Presidency does not lend itself to on-the-job experience." You can't have it both ways either.
