I think the problem for a system like that now is that it's too late...what is that saying about trying to get the genie back in the bottle? We've had too many generations of people who have made a career out of the welfare system. I believe the system works for the Dutch because it's pretty much always been in place and there was a community that pushed the slackers to work...I don't believe they were actually ostracized, but I believe they grow up understanding the concept of 'all in this together'. Which also explains why the recent influx of a large group of immigrants with their hands out and a sense of entitlement is disrupting the system. Here in this country, I already, sometimes to my chagrin, resent the many people who somehow manage to have an endless supply of government "gifts" while I toil 10-12 a day and still worry that I've got enough Ramen Noodles to get me through to next payday.
