It was not just babies born in the German hospitals that had to be registered. I had to actually go to the American consulate to register my child's birth even though she was born in the military hospital. That's where the confusion came in between what you are saying and what I am saying, but she was not considered a German citizen. Her birth was just not registered yet and she was a "nothing to anybody". They told me I had like 3 months to get it done without it being a headache to do.
I don't know how old your friends kids are, but the laws were changed back in the 70s or so to make it easier because there were so many questions about whether the kids born overseas to soldiers were American citizens or not.

That isn't exactly correct now is it? Good grief, Obama hasn't even been CHARGED with any wrong doing. Get real!
John Glenn and John McCain were cleared of having acted improperly....
improperly but were criticized for having exercised "poor judgment." Interesting that 4 of the 5 were Democrats. Still..John McCain has publically said he was sorry for his part in it, that he was wrong in what he did and has apologized for it. Like I said before, I respect that. Everyone makes mistakes. No everyone is man enough to own up to them and not hide behind Nancy Pelosi and the DNC like Chris Dodd and Barney Frank are doing. Now THERE is a pair to draw to.
