It's very simple why he won't meet with her: He's gutless.
He refuses to be in the presence of any person who disagrees with him in any way: Whether it's a member of his administration or a supposedly "open" town hall meeting or the mother of a young soldier killed because of a phony war.
He did meet with her shortly after her son was killed and when she was still under his "spell" as was much of the country, believing that he was a sincere, truthful person who found value in the lives of our soldiers... our children.
But now she knows better. She's angry, and she's got every right to be, as does every parent of every soldier whose life was lost because of a series of lies by this man and his administration. He betrayed the rest of this country, but he betrayed her even more.
What do they call someone who freely sends everyone else's children to be killed under false pretenses, when the same person, due to family, wealth and privilege, was able to duck out of putting his own life on the line for his country? I think the word is COWARD.
And yes, I agree that his father, President Clinton and President Reagan would have had the grace and dignity to meet with Ms. Sheehan. It's a shame that grace and dignity aren't hereditary human characteristics.
