Here is the difference between what you are proposing and what the other posters are proposing.
"There was an idea floating around earlier last month that the American people should get a bailout. They could choose whether to get one or not, use the money strictly for paying off a house, credit cards, cars, etc, and then pay the money back to the government by higher taxes over the next three to five years."
The other posters were asking to have part or all of their mortgages paid by the government, thereby leaving out taxpayers who are not homeowners.
Big difference!
