I think possibly Fox might have Obama's ratings dropping but just heard yesterday both independents and Democrats totally behind him with ratings up in the 80s. I did not even hear about the tea party until that very day so actually was not that huge from what I saw or read. As far as Alaska, she gets props for having a balanced budget. When you've got one of the lowest populations (4th least populated state) and a metric crap-ton of oil running through your state via the pipeline, Marion Berry, Kwame Kilpatrick, Bill Ford and George W. Bush could balance the budget--. Each Alaskan resident gets an annual check from the pipeline revenues. How can you NOT have a balanced budget?!?!?! Want to impress me? Balance California or Michigan's budget. The rainbow in Alaska is not as bright as several years ago. Read the Alaska newspapers. People there don’t even like her. You will not have your wish of a change of parties next election- the repubs are in a shamble and everyone knows that.

I didn't stick to just one. I found MSNBC to be the most one-sided, and that includes NBC. Hours devoted to the O.
MSNBC is the most biased of all the stations
Fox News was voted by the press to be the most fair in their reporting. They compared all the major stations and came up with an average of 40% of all reporting devoted to each side when reporting election news.
Other posters will state Fox is biased, but I have started watching that station and CNBC. I was MSNBC and the others when I need a laugh.
Maybe it's because I watch a lot of news on different stations
besides reading political news in the WSJ, hometown paper, and others.

my mother lived during the depression and her family thought FDR was the greatest thing since sliced bread. Same with my father and his family were hard-core Republicans.......Ask someone who lived it instead of GUESSING - better yet - Google it and find a reputable source.

Get off the war issue - Obama plans to keep the war going too. Haven't you listened to what he's been saying? Guess the Obama worship takes up so much time that people don't listen to his plans.

So the Federal govt is gonna cut back in entitlement programs to fund the rebuilding of NO? Not gonna cease his tax cuts for the rich, just gonna cut back on programs for.....the disadvantaged, of course, the ones whose voices will not be heard..Whose fault was NO? Bush and his administration. I say Bush should donate some of his millions to the rebuilding of NO, let some of the unfortunate ones camp on his 1700 acres that he boasts about..He got us into this awful mess. often very factual. I watch it a lot.
I would love to see the John Adams program but I gave up HBO. They didn't seem to have very good programming for a long time, movie-wise, and a lot of the series were on too late for me, so I gave HBO up (after 15 years).
govt job programs/CETA
My first real job some 30 years ago was a CETA job. That was Comprehensive Employment and Training Act. This was doing medical transcription for a county health department. I worked as a CETA employee for a year, they trained me and paid me, and I have worked in transcription for 30 years, of course moving on to hospital stuff. Made big bucks for quite a few years and now here I am, strangely enough, I think back to the same money I made all those years ago. You've got to keep your sense of humor.

In our area, all the "Handicapable" work programs are
subsidized through the state or private donors. The state is broke. They have already announced this is one of the areas of the budget that will be eliminated, along with the subsidized housing programs that provide the same people with independent or assisted living residences. The private corporate donors in our area are announcing layoffs by the thousands and have cut way back on community donations.
This is not social programs......this is HUGE government

Why shouldnt gov fund religious programs?
I should be able to get some funding just like everyone else if I have a religious program. I mean we fund abortion here in the US and abroad. We fund wars, we fund all kinds of CRAP so why NOT religion? Isnt it supposed to be equal and fair? Why is it the religious people of this world, namely the Christians get the short end of the stick?
Here's some info on the 'shovel ready' programs.
Read this morning in our paper that the majority of the stimulus money coming to our great state of Ohio is going to go not to construction projects (like it was supposed to, hence the term 'shovel ready'), but to study construction projects.
I get that maybe we just shouldn't throw money to whatever pothole comes first and that there has to be some sort of order, but the reasoning behind this 'study' given by Gov. Strickland was that it was totally within the parameters of the stimulus and "we're putting engineers and planners to work."
I'm sure that will be greatly appreciated by those construction workers three years from now - after they've lost their homes, cars, equipment, business, etc.
I wish I could explain it, but I just don't get it either.

are as American as apple pie and these same policies and initiatives can be found puncuating the pages of our history from the day of our country's inception.
You do not understand Marxism or socialism, or you would be a lot more exercised by the current redistribution of wealth that takes your tax dollars and moves them upward to an elite ruling class that represses and undermines the middle class at the drop of a hat. State ownership of banks, lending institutions and direct personal property "buy outs" (as proposed by McCain certainly smack of Marxism and are not exactly what you could call traditional American values.

able to perhaps save their homes and families, able to pay taxes, which will in turn pay for social programs, support the infrastructure, and then when folk are back to work they will feel secure in perhaps purchasing again, which will help businesses....FDR did it, it takes time, it is not a quick fix, it won't make Obama into Merlin, it took 8 LONG YEARS to get into this bottomless pit, can we give this administration at least a year or two to try to get things moving upward again? I may not support every social program included therein, but work is being done, adn will continue. I used to cross the desert on occasion when I lived in CA, and I am starting to see vultures on the side of the road again circling and not even waiting to pounce and pull apart the government. Why? Just my opion.

impeaching Bush unless we recall every single Democratic senator and representative who voted for the war. Let's get real about this. They voted for the war. READ the resolution before you start arguing. It is very clear in its message and they FULLY understood what they were voting on. If they did not, then they do not been to be in the offices they hold!! They can READ, I assume. They had the same intelligence that the President had. Democrats sat on the Intelligence Committees who were briefed by the same people who briefed the President. It is a load of unadulterated MANURE (to use the Code Pink ladies' song) to now state that they were lied to and they didn't know the truth. Well, all I can say is, they do not deserve to be in Washington as your representatives if they did NOT do the research and talk to the advisors and the military et. al. before agreeing to the resolution. Now that the going has gotten tough, the Democrats want to do what they do best, that is cut and run, no matter what happens to the Iraqi people or to the morale of our men and women in uniform, just like they did during Viet Nam. It is a travesty, it plays right into the hands of the enemy, and I would not doubt in the latest that Sean Penn, Tim Robbins, Susan Sarandon, Hanoi Jane, and the Pink Ladies are now starring in Al Qaeda recruitment and propaganda videos. And they should each be ashamed of that fact. But there is something seriously lacking in those people...empathy and common sense. And no one will respond to my challenge...why don't the Code Pink ladies take their cause to the real enemies of this country...the ones who took down the towers...the ones who bombed the Cole...the ones who bombed the WTC the FIRST time...the ones who downed the plane over Lockerbie...the ones who blew up the Marine barracks in Beirut....how, LVMT, can you INGORE all that loss of American life? How can THEY??? Why don't Sarandon, Robbins, Penn, all of them, get an audience with bin Laden? Tell HIM to give peace a chance...try to get his followers to IMPEACH HIM. I remember in the mid 1980s, my old car died. The last thing I wanted was to incur a new monthly car payment, but I needed a car.
I went to the Chevy lot and asked to see the cheapest new car they had. They showed me a Chevy Sprint -- bare bones. (The car didn't have air conditioning and didn't even have a RADIO.) I bought it because I was desperate. (I remember my prepubescent daughter HATING me for getting it because the front passenger visor didn't have a MIRROR.)
That dang car got 50 MILES PER GALLON! I bought a radio (and a mirror for the front passenger visor), and later, my dad had air conditioning installed as a birthday present. It turned out to be the best car I ever had and was very, very cheap to purchase.
If they could manufacture a car like that 20-plus years ago, why can't they do it now?

Some one please explain to me....you all blame Bush for 9/11 stating that there were warnings about planes, etc. Did they give a specific day? Which planes? So does the president take this information and land all planes and not allow air travel at all on that day? Do they evacuate all tall buildings and monuments just in case? Could 9/11 have been prevented? We all seem to know who to point the finger at but I'm sure dealing with terrorist and terrorists threats is a whole different ball game than us just sitting back and watching bad things happening and wanting to know why it wasn't stopped.
All I can say is that God forbid we have another terrorist attack, we will just have to wait and see how Obama handles it. I think it would be hard for any president to prevent some of these things, but that is just something we are going to have to see play out before we know the answer to it.

Okay, that is one of the things in this "package" that I think is insane and absolutely STUPID and WRONG. But would I throw out so many of the good proposals in that bill because of it, things that will actually create jobs, actually help some (SOME) deserving folk not go out on the street, extend unemployment benefits because there are almost NO JOBS out there and families will need this to fall back on as they look for jobs...the $$$ that will go for elcerly, disabled, the money that will go toward strengthing out BORDERS, and lots of folk here complain about the ALIENS, well, that takes money! Stronger borders also means less drugs get in, they will still get in I know, but less will. STOP throwing out the baby with the bathwater, for God's sake. The country is starting to remind me of a bunch of little kids with ADHD hiked up on sugar, running around, taking tantrums, and wanting things NOW. What about the past 8 years as this was all in the making????
