MTs are no longer needed? Anyone who has worked for any amount of time on a voice recognition platform knows that those reports require a human editor. (See Alice for erectile dysfunction versus Cialis for erectile dysfunction.) You are not going to find a neurosurgeon in the world who wants to point and click his way through a tumor resection. Do hospital administrators really think it is cost effective to pay a surgeon or even a hospitalist to do data entry instead of see patients?
Yes, some clinics have gone to point and click for chart notes, but EMR is a record-keeping system and the majority of them have dictation-transcription programs as part of the system. If they were there to truly phase out MT, the interface that nymt described above would not exist.
