and I will be very happy to get another stimulus check. I might take part of the check and go to Chili's, so I guess there is such a thing as a "free lunch" occasionally. So "don't look a gift horse in the mouth" as my grandmother used to say.

Okay, now those of who make $50,000 are giving to those who won't work
Every year at tax time, I have to pay more taxes, more taxes, more taxes. Every year at tax time, my friends and family members who make less than me get back these huge checks of 3, 4, and 5 thousand dollars because of earned income - did they earn that money? No, it is coming out of our checks to give to them. Can't ya'll see that is the way it works now, but it is not just the people with a lot of money giving it? It is us - the middle class!
O's Make Work Pay plan will help absorb some of that IC tax.
It's part of his small business initiates. Look before you leap next time.
temporary jobs lead to permanent jobs -
projects are always just temporary; however, they lead to more permanent positions. Also, by the time some of these "temporary" jobs are over, the crisis should be settling down too. Do you think that rebuilding our infrastructure is going to happen in a day, week, or month?
What should we do? Tell these people who will be temporarily paid not to work for the next couple of years on these jobs because they are only temporary? That is a good idea - nobody do the temporary jobs, that way the projects will never get done and the deficit will not go up, and the economy will just continue to decline...
That's a great way to handle it!
This is always how she ends up when

Never ends with this one
There you go again! The point is - what difference does it make what side you are on? So are you saying that anyone who wants us to get along is a Republican? I never said what I am, in fact, I clearly stated I wasn't sure. So are you daring me to pick a side? Or are you just going to choose one for me? You are just down right nuts. Sorry I'm not as angry as you. I'm a positive person that wants to see positive change. According to you, anyone who wants that should just be cast into the pit of fire with a big R on their head. Because I don't want to comment on some articles, I'm a Republican? Really? I had no idea the critera for being a Democrat was to comment on certain threads. Who knew? I'm a American, get over it.
The ends is near, the sky is falling.
If you look throughout history, many people thought that their century would have been the end of the world. What do I think? As a believer, I truly do believe that there are signs out there that do lead toward Christ's return. Please no flaming me as this is my personal opinion.
As to when this might happen....no one knows. As a believer in God, it is written that no one knows.....not even the angels in Heaven know. Is the end getting closer.....yes....I think it is. Will it happen in my lifetime? I don't know.
As to your thoughts about McCain and Obama. I really do not think that either of them have the appropriate plan for our country and I really do feel sorry for the next president because he will have A LOT on his table. However, I truly feel that Obama's plan will hurt our economy more than help it. I believe that our country is in a recession and the blames goes to government....PERIOD. I'm not even going into the dems vs pubs. They are all to blame. They all had their greedy little hands in on this. After being screwed over by the government, do I want them to have more control over things? HECK NO! Government spending has gotten WAY out of hand and, IMO, that is the key to this whole crisis. Cut government spending. You can't raise taxes during a recession. It will weaken the economy and head us straight for a depression.
An interesting thing I heard on TV last night. China noticed their economy take a little dip, nothing like ours, and guess what they are doing......they are lowering taxes. Not raising them.
The people that say 95% won't be taxed....I'm sorry but even putting the whole welfare allegations aside....it isn't possible. There aren't enough rich people to take from to come up with the money Obama wants to spend. He will have to increase taxes on the rest of us as well and that includes the middle class that he professes to be looking after.
Increasing taxes on companies will result in a higher job loss than a job creation. People say that the companies make enough and can absorb that.....you obviously don't run a business and let me tell you....my husband does and he is sweating this BIG time. It ain't pretty ladies and gentlemen. The companies who can afford to "absorb" this tax increase will pass it along to us by jacking up the prices of their products. So who pays for that increase....WE DO PEOPLE!
I don't have anything personal against Obama. I will admit that his judgment in associations are a bit concerning, but putting that all aside.....Obama's plans for this country will fail. Is it change? Yes it is.....but it will be a change for the worse.
lol....you act like Alaska is at the ends of the earth....
and they are "poor Alaskans." I think they have all incomes levels. Hey...a few thousand dollars is a lot of money to ME. lol.
Anyway...the amount of land drilled on in Alaska is extremely small in contrast to the size of the state. Proposed drilling in ANWR encompasses about 2000 acres at the most far north part of Alaska. ANWR in total is 19 MILLION acres.

We DO NOT want to give terrorists the same rights as American citizens......
Excerpt from this article:
"Once you go out and capture a bunch of terrorists, as we did in Afghanistan and elsewhere, then you've got to have some place to put them," he said. "If you bring them here to the U.S. and put them in our local court system, then they are entitled to all kinds of rights that we extend only to American citizens. Remember, these are unlawful combatants.

Excuse me, but he did meet with her
I mean, if she's hated him for so long like she now claims then why didn't she tell that to his face the first time. Oh, the first time she was singing his praises. That's just blatantly odd. Most of us never get one appointment with the Pres., but this chick thinks she deserves a second one just because she's changed her wishy-washy mind because her son died in the military service he SIGNED UP FOR!! Logic + Big Bad - Never the twain shall meet.
There you go trying to be all logical and realistic and everything.
Those who are in the 'ignorance is bliss' camp will never believe that radical Islam is anything to worry about. They will continue to blame 9/11 on America. They will continue to blame Bush for everything else. They will continue to praise their annoited one every time he jogs shirtless or plays with a puppy or eats a piece of pie.
They don't want to see his radical agenda, his blatant mistakes, or his real (and really dangerous) lack of leadership skills.
My folks used to raise hunting dogs. Once in awhile, you'd come up with a dog that simply couldn't learn. No matter how much time you put into training and coaching the poor little thing, its head could never seem to get in the game. They were lovable, attractive, but totally useless for the job they were meant to do.
I can't wait until we get another chance to find the pick of the litter, because when it comes to Obama, as my dad might say, "That dog can't hunt."

Valerie Jarrett on Meet the Press-Did you know?
Born in IRAN. Worked for Richard Daley, was her mentor? She is co-chair of the Obama-Biden transistion team. She hired Michele in 1991.
She will not give any info on whom he may choose for his team. "Everything is a possibility." She is not ruling out anything. "Obama is selecting the best team for the job."
Rahm Emanual: She knew him for over 15 years. He embraces O's philosophy.
Will she take the Rich Daley model and implement it? Roundabout answer.
What are his flaws? "That's what is nice about being his friend. I can talk about his strengths, not his flaws."
Conservatives that I meet are common sense

First, they were invited by O to meet with him "without their lawyers." SM
They never had to approach President Bush because he was tough on terrorists and they knew he would give them the justice those sailors deserved! The O administration are going to be timid with terrorism and terrorists. Closing Gitmo is the first step towards completely castrating America in the eyes of the world. He is weakening this country with every passing day of his administration.
He wants to make peace with terrorists and it simply will not happen. IT WILL NOT HAPPEN!
This is insanity! I don't understand how we as Americans can completely forget the loss of the lives of fellow citizens on 9/11? How do we simply disregard the lives those on the USS Cole gave with that terrorist attack? How can you people devalue these Americans and their families? What happened to the righteous outrage and the promise of justice for the dead?
All of sudden, O comes along with his pretty speeches and we are supposed hold hands with these people and forgive and forget?!?!?!?! We're supposed to close Gitmo because we are violating the rights terrorists with our mean interrogation tactics? What about the rights of the people who died, the families who lost loved ones? What about their rights?
If someone killed your child would you stop at nothing to find the truth and stop it from happening to someone else?
I am disgusted with you O lovers here! You care so little for the lives of your neighbors. You care so little for the fate of your Country, for your Constitution. You deserve what you get.
I love, too, that Joe Biden is going to meet with him next week.
Joe - white person with blue eyes. Can't wait to hear what this guy has to say to Joe!

Meet The (White) Man Who Inspired Wright's Controversial Sermon
I was reading on ABC.com and found this article in the comments section. I don't know much about the Huffington Post, so this may be taken with a grain of salt. I thought it was interesting though.
Meet The (White) Man Who Inspired Wright's Controversial Sermon Sam Stein The Huffington Post March 21, 2008
Meet the man who inspired Reverend Jeremiah Wright's now famous tirade about America's foreign policy inciting the terrorist attacks of September 11.
His name is Ambassador Edward Peck. And he is a retired, white, career U.S. diplomat who served 32-years in the U.S. Foreign Service and was chief of the U.S. mission to Iraq under Jimmy Carter -- hardly the black-rage image with which Wright has been stigmatized.
In fact, when Wright took the pulpit to give his post-9/11 address -- which has since become boiled down to a five second sound bite about "America's chickens coming home to roost" -- he prefaced his remarks as a "faith footnote," an indication that he was deviating from his sermon.
"I heard Ambassador Peck on an interview yesterday," Wright declared. "He was on Fox News. This is a white man and he was upsetting the Fox News commentators to no end. He pointed out, a white man, an ambassador, that what Malcolm X said when he got silenced by Elijah Muhammad was in fact true: America's chickens are coming home to roost."
Wright then went on to list more than a few U.S. foreign policy endeavors that, by the tone of his voice and manner of his expression, he viewed as more or less deplorable. This included, as has been demonstrated in the endless loop of clips from his sermon, bombing Hiroshima and Nagasaki and nuking "far more than the thousands in New York and the Pentagon and we never batted an eye."
"Violence begets violence," Wright said, "hatred begets hatred, and terrorism begets terrorism."
And then he concluded by putting the comments on Peck's shoulders: "A white ambassador said that yall, not a black militant, not a reverend who preaches about racism, an ambassador whose eyes are wide open and is trying to get us to wake up and move away from this dangerous precipice... the ambassador said that the people we have wounded don't have the military capability we have, but they do have individuals who are willing to die and take thousands with them... let me stop my faith footnote right there."
Watch the video (the relevant material starts around the 3:00 mark):
So it seems that while Wright did believe American held some responsibility for 9/11, his views, which have been described as radically outside the political mainstream, were actually influenced by a career foreign policy official.
Who is Peck? The ambassador, who has offered controversial criticism of Israeli policy in the West Bank but also warned against the Iraq War, was lecturing on a cruise ship and was unavailable for comment. But officials at Peck's former organization, the Council for the National Interest, a non-profit group that advocates reducing Israel's influence on U.S. Middle East policy, offered descriptions of the man.
"Peck is very outspoken," said Eugene Bird, who now heads CNI. "He is also very good at making phrases that have a resonance with the American people. When he came off of that Fox News, a few days later he said they would never invite me back again."
And what, exactly, did Peck say in that Fox News interview that inspired Wright's words?
Here are some quotes from an appearance the Ambassador made on the network on October 11, 2001, which may or may not have been the segment Wright was referring to. On the show, Peck said he thought it was illogical to tie Saddam Hussein to the terrorist attacks on 9/11, and that while the then-Iraqi leader had "some very sound and logical reasons not to like [the United States]," he and Osama bin Laden had no other ties.
From there, Peck went on to ascribe motives for what prompted the 9/11 attacks. "Stopping the economic embargo and bombings of Iraq," he said, "things to which Osama bin Laden has alluded as the kinds of things he doesn't like. He doesn't think it's appropriate for the United States to be doing, from his perspective, all the terrible things that he sees us as having been doing, the same way Saddam Hussein feels. So from that perspective, they have a commonality of interests. But they also have a deeply divergent view of the role of Islam in government, which would be a problem."
Well now when he shows up on Meet The Press like that I'll start to worry!

Bush won't meet with border officials despite evidence of Middle East infiltration through Mexico
Article Launched: 6/16/2006 12:00 AM
Bush declines to meet with border officials
Sara A. Carter, Staff Writer
San Bernardino County Sun
President Bush has refused to meet with border law-enforcement officials from Texas for a second time. His response to their request came in the form of a letter Monday, angering both lawmakers and sheriffs.
In fact, some Republican members of the House, upset by what they call the administration's seeming lack of concern for border security, are preparing to hold investigative hearings in San Diego and Laredo, Texas, early next month.
Members of the House Subcommittee on International Terrorism and Nonproliferation hope to expose serious security flaws that could potentially lead to terrorist attacks in the country, said Rep. Ted Poe, R-Texas, who is a member of the panel and has pushed for the hearings.
The next terrorist is not going to come in through (Transportation Security Administration) screening at Kennedy airport, Poe said. We already have information that people from the Middle East have come through the border from Mexico. They assimilate in Mexico learning to speak Spanish and adopt customs and then they cross the border into the United States.
Poe requested the meeting for members of the Southwestern Sheriffs' Border Coalition a group that includes all 26 border-county sheriffs from California, New Mexico, Arizona and Texas. The sheriffs wanted to speak to the president about the increasing dangers in their communities and along the border.
The president is the busiest man in the world but he needs to take the time to talk to the border sheriffs and learn what's happening in the real world from them, Poe said. We can't understand why he refuses to meet with them.
In May, all of the Republican House members from Texas traveled to Washington to meet the president regarding border security. Bush did not meet with them, however, and former White House spokesman Scott McClellan was sent in his stead.
Poe said the White House letter dated Monday showed the disconnect between the administration and the American people who want the border secured.
The president would appreciate the opportunity to visit with border sheriffs, said the White House letter written by La Rhonda M. Houston, deputy director of the Office of Appointments and Scheduling. Regrettably, it will not be possible for us to arrange such a meeting. I know that you understand with the tremendous demands of the president's time, he must often miss special opportunities, as is the case this time.
Rick Glancey, spokesman for the sheriffs coalition, said its members are angry and disappointed in the president's response. Glancey said Bush's recent tour of the border with Border Patrol spokesmen did not reflect the reality of what locals live with every day.
It's a slap in the face to the hardworking men and women on the front lines of rural America who every day engage in border-security issues, Glancey said. He missed the opportunity to take off his White House cowboy boots and put some real cowboy boots on and walk in our shoes for a few minutes.
The border hearings will expose the truth to the American public and force the administration to take a serious look at the border, said Allan Knapp, Poe's legislative director.
Knapp and Poe have traveled twice to the border this year, spending time along barren stretches where they witnessed no security and numerous migrants crossing into the United States, they said.
We need to expose the lack of border security before it is too late, Poe said. We're fighting a war on terror in Iraq and we're winning, but we're losing our own border war. These hearings will be a necessary step in the right direction.
Andy Ramirez, chairman of the Chino-based Friends of the Border Patrol, said he has been called to testify before the panel in San Diego. Ramirez said he has turned in two years of Border Patrol documents and memos, which he will discuss before the committee.
The president has basically pushed his whole administration's agenda toward the war on terror, yet he can't find the time to meet with law-enforcement leaders responsible for border security, Ramirez said. It is appalling and outrageous that the war on terror and border security does not extend to the U.S. border.
NOBODY can make Saddam look good. But Bush seems to be the ONLY one who can make him look less
If you can't make abortion illegal, just make it impossible (sm)

jobs
my husband has been a carpenter and self-employed since he was fresh out of school. after 20 years he had no job, no work anywhere. he had to go take a job at a store making less than half of what he used to make. now they are saying they may be laying him off and he hasnt been there long enough to collect unemployment. I cant imagine things getting worse, but I fear they are going to.
Not me, I have 3 jobs, thank you. Why?
nm
JOBS
Maybe Obama is thinking these jobs will last until he is out of office, and then when the jobs are finished, and people are out of work, he can say, see what happened when I was no longer in office.
Well of course Obama wants to keep jobs in the USA. Here is why.
Do you want $8,500 of your dollars to fund the Useless Nations? I know I don't.
Barack Hussein Obama has a legislative record in the Senate and one of his proudest accomplishments is The Global Poverty Act (S. 2433).
Barack Hussein Obama's Global Poverty Act will commit us to a stealth United Nations-inspired global tax of $845 Billion dollars... that comes to approximately an $8500.00 tax burden for every household in the United States!
Cliff Kincaid of Accuracy in Media wrote:
"[T]he legislation, if approved, dedicates 0.7 percent of the U.S. gross national product to foreign aid, which... would amount to $845 billion 'over and above what the U.S. already spends.'"
"The plan passed the House in 2007 'because most members didn't realize what was in it.' Congressional sponsors have been careful not to calculate the amount of foreign aid spending that it would require."
The United Nation's actual record on ending pain and suffering around the world is pathetic and dismal.
Here is the link, check it out for yourselves before you flame me. I am sure I am not the only one who is worried about what will happen when/if he gets into office.

It is not that Americans won't do the jobs...
it is really that they will not do them for the wages given. Unfortunately, we expect a cheap food source, which we get. If farmers have to pay Americans to labor away in fields, they will have to pay more than they do and our food costs will go up. I am actually okay with that. Perhaps retail markup will have to go down some, as well. Coming from California, I know what kind of living conditions migrant famers live in (huge amounts of people in subpar housing, etc.) and understand that Americans WILL do the work, but only for a fair amount of pay.
I've had jobs since the day I was old enough to
even though there were times I could barely scrape together 2 cents to buy something I or my family needed. Yes, jobs are pretty easy to get, if you don't think you're "above" working at a gas station, McDonald's - whatever it takes. There are plenty of people who use social programs in lieu of finding a job. I see it all the time. They milk the system, if you don't admit that, you're in denial. I don't believe for one minute that the hard-working people in the country that make decent money should have to pay for these people. I have no problem with programs for those who truly need it, but if you were truly to examine most of the recipients of these programs, a good lot of them are abusing it. I worked in a law office where I saw this and I worked in medical offices where I saw this. The sad reality is that those who milk the system are darn good at it and REAP the benefits, but the people who truly need welfare, disability, etc., fight for sometimes YEARS and never receive benefits.
I think it's highly tacky of you to insinuate that the only way Whoopie could've attained her success is by using social programs. That is a borderline racist remark, IMO. Would you say that about a successful white actress? Hmmmph.
Just WHO do you think does provide jobs?
the middle class?
how to figure out which jobs are on their way out
Anything that requires a loan: houses, cars, trade schools, university of Phoenix type schools, shopping malls, vacations and travel, elective surgeries or cosmetic dental lasik surgeries, etc.
Jobs that will increase:
Anything that helps America:
Teachers, nurses, geologists, scientists, infrastructure, power grids, alternative energy, solar.
how it affects our jobs
It will affect us if the automakers fail because it is estimated that upwards of 6 million, and some estimates are as high as 10-12 million, people could potentially face unemployment. That is those working for the big 3 as well as those who supply them and those who work for business that all of these people utilize. 6 million is a lot of people now without health benefits and paychecks. Obviously, that will have an impact of numbers of doctor and hospital visits.
Green jobs.......... sm
would take quite a bit of time to implement as it would take time to build the utility facilities, not to mention retrofitting households to use green energy. I don't think this is a viable short-term plan to help our country, although I do see a benefit from it long-term. However, in creating green jobs and bankrupting the coal industry like he said he would that creates yet another situation where people will be jobless and not paying taxes. With a good portion of our electric energy coming from the coal industry, this number could be significant enough to offset any benefit obtained with green energy and green jobs.
We are in a financial crisis and I don't see that there is anyway out of it (unless they yank that Golden Fleece) without immediate tax increases on all tax-paying Americans.
Like I said, a plan is just a plan and even with a Democratic Senate, I don't foresee his tax plans coming to fruition in the near future.
You nut jobs can have this place
Keep on ranting about the stupid b/c like as if you are smarter than Hillary and McCain. If there'd been even a SNIFF of wrongdoing in the b/c, they would have drug it out and already drug it through the mud. Personally I don't think a lot of the nut jobs who hang out here are even MTs. I think they are professional political pot stirers!!!
They are bragging about 3M jobs
being created. Guess what DH reminded me of? There are millions more unemployed than the 3M (he said 10M, but I'm not sure on that), plus most of these jobs will not happen until 2011. How's that going to help?
I'm serious. That will leave 7M still on the unemployment rolls. We are really in for a long haul here. Thank heavens I don't live in a city. At least we can grow our own food.
You know if they want to create jobs
why aren't we drilling for oil? Why aren't we getting wind farms going? If our government would take more money to look into alternative fuels, not only would that stop our dependency on foreign oil but we will need workers to maintain those things, etc. Those will be jobs that will last. It won't be like construction work like Obama wants. Once the roads are repaired and bridges fixed, etc....then what? I just think we are going in the wrong direction and I just don't understand why. We need to tap our resources with offshore drilling. We need to drill Alaska. While we are doing that, we need to look for alternatives to oil. The sooner they do that, the sooner car companies can make environmentally safer cars and vehicles. I mean....come on.
I read somewhere that most of the jobs
won't get up and running until 2010 or 2011. It takes time. Everything takes time, and so, in the meantime, we have to go it on our own. It's sink or swim right now.
Particularly the construction jobs.
Those often take at least two years of planning, getting bids, getting materials and getting started. Not very helpful right now. I think everyone on the Hill has totally lost any connection with the real world.
From my understanding, the jobs
created would only be temporary. Don't forget, road and bridge construction only lasts in the summer in the northern states, and when those road and bridge jobs are done, what's next?
The money being doled out for infrastructure is definitely not enough. There are many, many roads and bridges that have to be built/rebuilt in the country and any one of them would cost $1 million and up. PA is getting $2.7M for roads. Is that going to take care of the roads? Doubt it. Headlines recenty in our paper stated PA was going to get $6B. I checked the charts and don't see where he gets that figure.
