Try to think of it

as being spoken TO, with great vigor and passion.  I think this may closely represent the type of speech given in Revolutionary War era taverns.

I don't believe the Mr. Rogers approach would have delivered the message very well:  Tired of taxation without representation?  Sure, I knew you were. Can you say taxation?  Sure, I know you can.
