All she wants is for McCain campaign to denounce the death threats and tone down the rhetoric. Once done, suit withdrawn.

Good for the attorney general and US attorney for filing their complaint. sm
He doesn't realize [or maybe he knows exactly] how effective his *satire* could be on his audience. All it takes is a few nut jobs listening in and there you have a vigilante sniping imigrants. I tried to find a clip to listen to on the web but couldn't.

not retired

I take it you guys are already retired because if you are still working and your retirement is your 401K you can't touch it.  Luckily my dh's service provider has a fund that does not really make money or lose money so we moved it there.  Mine has nothing like that so I moved it to the least volatile but its a crap shoot.

You mean kinda sorta like some retired ex-MTs who do the same..
and paint gourds in their spare time?
I believe this is the $250 stimulus check for retired people who are...sm
drawing Social Security. It is a one-time $250 check out of Obama's stimulus package. It has nothing to do with the stimulus checks sent out during Bush's administration.
I weighed in with my radical retired Teamster husband

to make sure I get it right.  Having been married to me for a number of years, he is fairly well versed in the field of MT.  So let's look at unions from that perspective:

Say we have an MT who cherry picks and signs off every time a dictator comes up that she doesn't want to do.  Other MTs that have to pick up after this MT complain until the company finally decides to fire this bad MT.  Okay, the firing is done.  The slacking MT files a grievance with her union.  A hearing is scheduled with the Union representative, the company representative, the bad MT and any interested parties may also appear on either side as witnesses...a sort of trial if you will.  The company must present all records for the bad MT to day 1 of employment.  Co-workers can speak for or against the person.  Let's say that the documentation backs up the bad MT firing.  She is fired.......end of story.

Another real example:  Radical Teamster husband once had a hot-shot supervisor.  Husband got so angry one day that he threw a trash can at the supervisor.  He was fired.  He filed a greviance and was suspended until the hearing.  At the hearing the company brought their records of some 20 odd years of hard work and being a good employee, 1 episode of, I think they called it insubordination.    Co-workers appeared on behalf of husband.  Husband received a reprimand from the union about the trash can throwing incident and went back to his job.  Shortly thereafter the company fired the supervisor. Supervisors were not represented by the union and he was fired...period.

Wouldn't it be nice if MTs had someone to stand up for them today?

I have an attorney.........
and they stay right on it. I belong to a cancer support group and it's like half of them get SSD and half of them don't. It seems to matter what state you live in.......also, age is a factor (this cancer is rare and the median age is 66 - I'll be 50 in May) - so, they look at it like they'll have to pay for me longer (right - cannot afford treatment right now, husband laid off). I'll fight to the very end - have to - otherwise my private insurance will stop paying.
Would rather the attorney prosper
I would rather have an attorney who is helping someone injured from a major corporation profit from his good work..to protect the little guy.  I would rather not help the big corporations who are polluting our air and water, committing white collar crimes and most getting away with it and dont give a fig about the back bone of America, the working middle class.
Obama was their attorney at one time
So as their attorney he didn't know this was going on....like crap he didn't. He was part of the corruption. He continues to be heavily involved with them....lets not hide our heads in the sand.
Obama says he was ONLY an attorney for ACORN
He conveniently forgot to state the fact that he gave ACORN 800,000 dollars to ACORN.
He's a brilliant constitutional attorney....
No he's not, yes he is, no he's not, yes he is arguments will not win any elections.
It is at the advice of the office of the attorney general...
of the state of Alaska. It has turned into a political hatchet job. Just a scant few months ago, Hollis French (running the "investigative" committee) said that the governor's office was cooperating and no subpoenas were necessary. Then, when she was picked as the VP candidate and Obama folks descended on Alaska...all of a sudden the "investigation" grew (and the pictures of Obama and Hollis French and the other key democrat on this committee yucking it up surfaced). It has come to light that the investigator they hired is a personal friend of the man he is investigating. No bias there, right? Now that the attorney general is involved, politics can be removed from this and it can be brought to a result, whatever that result is.

What ever happened to innocent until proven guilty? Flew right past that basic right, eh?

Now son of a Democratic congressman being investigated for hacking her personal email. Wondering how THAT will turn out.

He was advised to do so by the attorney general's office...
of the state of Alaska. Actually, the letter came from the attorney general to the committee, stating that no one would be responding to the subpoenas pending their investigation. No one "scoffed" at subpoenas.
Who is this guy, a real attorney? Looking for what? Pretty scary! nm

Former Deputy Attorney General of Pennsylvania...
(Lafayette Hill, Pennsylvania – 08/21/08) - Philip J. Berg, Esquire, [Berg is a former Deputy Attorney General of Pennsylvania; former candidate for Governor and U.S. Senate in Democratic Primaries; former Chair of the Democratic Party in Montgomery County; former member of Democratic State Committee; an attorney with offices in Montgomery County, PA and an active practice in Philadelphia, PA, filed a lawsuit in Federal Court today, Berg vs. Obama, Civil Action No. 08-cv-4083, seeking a Declaratory Judgment and an Injunction that Obama does not meet the qualifications to be President of the United States. Berg filed this suit for the best interests of the Democratic Party and the citizens of the United States
Yes it is. Any attorney with an ax to grind can file appeals
until he gets it through his thick skull that his claim is lame. Got any idea how long it take to wend your way through immigration courts these days? Count yourself lucky if the case has been resolved by the next election cycle.
Taxpayers will pay for Gonzales' private attorney
This is incredible.

Lawyers from the Justice Department's civil division often represent department employees who're sued in connection with their official actions. However, Gonzales' attorney recently revealed in court papers that the Justice Department had approved his request to pay private attorney's fees arising from the federal lawsuit.

Dan Metcalfe, a former high-ranking veteran Justice Department official who filed the suit on behalf of eight law students, called the department's decision to pay for a private attorney rather than rely on its civil division "exceptional."

"It undoubtedly will cost the taxpayers far more," he said.

According to a person with knowledge of the case, the Justice Department has imposed a limit of $200 an hour or $24,000 a month on attorneys' fees. Top Justice Department attorneys generally earn no more than $100 per hour. The person spoke on the condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the case.

Asked why Gonzales made the request, Gonzales spokesman Robert Bork Jr. said that his client "values the work that the department's civil attorneys do in all cases" but thinks that "private counsel can often be useful where (department) officials are sued in an individual capacity, even where the suit has no substantive merit."

Charles Miller, a Justice Department spokesman, said the department wouldn't have any comment on the reasons for the approval and wouldn't answer questions about the cost to taxpayers.

The so called liberal media is not so liberal anymore...sm
Case and point Fox News is the #1 media outlet via ratings and hardhitting conservative anchors, pundits, and journalists. Other than Hardball, I don't know of another mainstream show that puts the liberal point of view out there and checks this administration and their policies.
liberal hit piece by a liberal deep thinker....

The lawsuit I am talking about was just filed this week...by some Democrat attorney...
in Pennsylvania. It may be the same material Bill and Hillary were going to go to court with...this is the first I heard that they personally were going to do it.

And Rendell said just this morning...saw it on the news...that he was "ashamed" of the way the press and fawned over Obama during the primaries much more than on Clinton. He did not say anything against Obama per se...just harangued the press for its biased coverage.

Also just heard a guy, and can't remember for the life of me what his organization is called...basically disgruntled Hillary supporters...who says that some 30% of her supporters are firmly deciding to support McCain...according to him, that's almost 3 million people. If that many Dems vote for McCain...don't know if Obama can overcome that.

I still say Hillary may say she supports Obama to the public, but in private I am thinking she is behind these people making waves because she wants Hillary in 2012.

It is really fascinating how this is playing out.

Charging is not spending money...it is spending someone elses money!
When you are debt free (as we are) THEN you spend money...anything else is just going into debt. I highly doubt he pays cash for anything.
Don't jump on me...jump on the attorney who filed it...
good grief.
I am neither liberal nor the other.
I am a human being on this planet tired of hearing you whine.
hardly. I am on the liberal
board posting for fellow liberals.  I am unconcerned about the reactions elicited from posters on the wrong site for their views.
No one said anything about a liberal rag....
could you post a link? Thanks.
JFK was NOT liberal

Yes, he was a Dem, but nothing even like the so-called centrists.  But Obama--we're talking as far left las one can go!  Be careful what you wish for!  His #1 liberal rating in the Senate should be enough.   Don't forget Biden is #3, with Ted Kennedy #2.

Those of you who make, say, double my salary, then you can give half of it to me.  Fear not, Obama will make sure that happens.  For all the bi%ching on this board about lost wages, that should be reason enough to NOT vote for the man who was a Senator only150 days or something like that.  Community agitator is another subject, and not a pretty one, either.

PBS has gone very liberal..............
Any federal funding should not be allowed with one-sided reporting. LIBERAL IDIOTS!

If they cannot have real interviews with REAL people, don't use my money to fund lame brain idiots!
Oh...and the liberal

Obama butt kissing media doesn't spin things at all.  Oh please!  Give me a break.

Shall we not forget that Immelt who head GE also runs NBC and he told them no Obama bashing.  I'm sure you are getting fair and balanced news from them, huh?

I am not a liberal..........nm

a far-liberal would probably be someone
who lives in the woods, is homosexual/lesbian, who is pro-life, marries a same-sex person, etc.....all in the same person.
money was cut due to war
I have compassion for those affected by Katrina.  It is Bush and his ilk that I have no compassion for.  This article states that the money was cut in 2003 due to the war.  That is why I posted it.  Money has been cut to the states since Bush's war, we are strapped in many ways in America due to Bush's war.  Open you eyes and see your president for what he is..a jerk, a low IQ imbecile, and for what he has done to America due to his war.
Money.........
Well, if they don't have money for birth control, they sure as shoot don't have it for a baby BUT in my neck of the woods, there are LOTS of illegitimate babies, mostly by mothers who started at 12, 13, 14 and by high school, had 2 or more. They even sit in school and brag about getting a bigger paycheck because they are pregnant again. Now, really, does that sound like someone who is interested in birth control in the first place? Some of these girls who get pregnant at 12 or 13 don't even think birth control. They usually get talked into sex by a guy several years older than them in the first place, and he is a loser anyway, and usually has fathered several babies already anyhow. And, belive me, most of these girls because of community experiences, already know where the clinics are and they can get there. They sure as heck don't have a problem getting there for all the free healthcare their child gets, usually in the ER on Friday and Saturday night because they are too lazy to get to the clinic through the week. Planned Parenthood isn't doing anything positive for them.
No, I would rather the money be used for ..sm
necessities for Alaska instead of asking the lower 48+1 to subsidize them.
The money that has gone to the war...
has been appropriated for that specific purpose. It was not just lying around waiting to be spent, so there is no reason to believe that if the war were not going on that amount of money would be spent elsewhere. That is not how the government works.

If the government did not help these institutions out, it would destabilize the economy which could trickle down to our banks and what little money we have in them. At least they learned from the fannie/freddie fiasco...when they gave the loan to AIG they kicked the top folks who ran it out, with no golden parachute and will oversee it...and in this case, finally...since it is a loan...if they stay solvent and pay it back the interest will benefit us all as it will go back into the coffers with the principal.

Exactly the kind of thing McCain has been talking about for years. Glad Bush finally listened.
yes, you can if it is your money..
I have done it already.
Sure there are.......you want all your money given as
xx
Of course you would....it's not your money
You'd be screaming a different tune. Even those without it have better sense than to believe this is a terrible thing. The more he makes, the more people he can hire. So clueless and bitter
No, that's not where he's getting his money

I don't think money should be taken from those
who make more AT ALL. I think there should be a tax PERCENTAGE and it is based on income so it is even across the board. I don't think those who make $200,000 should have a higher percentage than those who make $30,000. There is enough crap out there that doesn't need funding that can go to those who HONESTLY need help.

Those who HONESTLY need help are those who are trying to do something to get out of the whole and can't. Not those who go and buy a house that is way out of their price range, or who pop out 7 or 8 kids just to get food stamps. Not those who live in section 8 government housing for $60 a month and then buy a brand new BMW in someone elses name because they make money selling drugs or working under the table and not reporting it.

I said it is based on grades ALSO. Meaning it is based on both income and grades. Which means if I don't TRY and keep my grades up no matter how little money I make, I'm not going to receive it. That's the difference. No one seems to want to TRY anymore. Everyone just wants more, more, more, and they are doing less, less, less.

My argument is that those who do well for themselves should not have to pay for those who don't give a hoot and don't try to do well for themselves and just sit back and try to let daddy government take care of them.

Where did all that money come from?
Scam after scam keeps coming out. Phony donators sending money with prepaid credit cards that can't be traced. Gee, wonder where the money is coming from ? He is not honest or truthful about anything, and so many people trusting him with their future...sad.
With all the money that

Barrack Obama raised for his campaign.....I wonder who he owes now?  I mean....surely some of these people who gave a bunch of money want something in return.  Are there promises Obama has promised to keep to individuals who gave him money that we don't know about?  This is one reason why I hate political parties.  The DNC raised all that money and you have some serious extreme left psychos who gives money and then they want something in return.  Does this make Barrack Obama the democratic party puppet now?  How does that work?

Where is all this money going to come from?nm
x
so where does all this money come from and
when do we STOP bailing companies out? I was not a fan of the first bailout. I think that in the end, all of this will make things much worse and we are just slowing down the process. I understand that both McCain and Bush wanted the bailout, but I am capable of thinking for myself. If you want the auto industry to keep up employment, I would think that the best way to make that happen is to buy American cars, bot hand them over a lot of my hard earned money. I think that the money I paid for my car is enough.
where the money comes from
Okay, those are some interesting links. I feel even better about the job banks program now, because, check it out--this program was *created* to discourage outsourcing. The union felt like it made it too expensive for the car companies to outsource jobs. So the car companies obviously did some calculations and discovered that they could pay these guys not to work, AND outsource, AND still make money (that they failed to make money has less to do with those out of work guys, I suspect, than it does with decades of misreading consumer preferences!). So if this program is a big money-suck, it's only because they insisted on outsourcing.

It's also great to see that this job bank was not available for workers until AFTER they had exhausted their unemployment benefits--and that *those* benefits were also being funded by the automakers. So our tax dollars don't really have much to do with the story. As for the bailout...well, personally I'd rather the bailout money help actual people, rather than Wall Street, so I'm not really concerned about some guys playing checkers.

(as for the $31 an hour, I'm still having trouble doing the math on how a $5 billion dollar committment by GM for 4 years for 5000 workers works out to $31 an hour, but I'll let it go for now!)

I fuss (I like that word!) about spreading the wealth from rich to poor, and about these auto workers, because I think they represent an important case for us to learn from. How will we protect *our* livelihoods? Can companies begin to take us into account, and not at the same time do the same stupid mistakes that always bankrupt them, and not make it look like *our* fault that they're going bankrupt?
me too, me too - I want some of that money
Although I don't use sm as my handle. Does that disqualify me. LOL
why not put the money to better use
come on, there are much better things those donors could do with some of that that money than a ridiculously overpriced a party, for pete's sake.
We owe them money. (NM below)

Really! Well, that was exactly what the money was
before they used it illegally push Obama into office...... please stop falling for all this mumbo jumbo hype about non-profit organizations. Acorn will get the money regardless because the liberals nut jobs up there will see to it.
I say - take the money and run!!

from what I've seen, Michigan's economy has been in the toilet for decades...you guys NEED the money - let's just hope they don't do idiotic sh*t like build new malls or luxury hotels...........
